A Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier Comanche has gone adrift after reporting engine failure overnight off Placentia Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Canadian Coast Guard said on Friday.No injuries or pollution have been reported.The Coast Guard said it is responding to the incident and that its patrol vessel CCGS Cygnus is on scene along with tugs to stabilize the vessel from further drifting."We will continue to work with the owner to coordinate response to the MV Comanche to mitigate any threat to the vessel…

The Spanish Maritime Safety and Rescue Society in cooperation with ACSM, the Spanish provider of subsea services, have this week recovered the wreckage of a light aircraft Piper PA-34 Seneca, which fell into the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of delta de l'Ebre, close to Tarragona in Spain, at a water depth of 113 meters.Together with the aircraft, the SASEMAR/ACSM recovered the body of one of the pilots and return it to the family.The light aircraft disappeared from the radar on the November 3rd…

Ship Finance International Limited (SFL) announced that it has agreed to sell the 1999 built VLCCs Front Opalia, Front Comanche and Front Commerce to an unrelated third party. The company has simultaneously agreed to terminate the corresponding charter parties with a subsidiary of Frontline Ltd. The vessels are expected to be delivered to the new owners in the fourth quarter of 2014 and SFL expects to receive cash proceeds of approximately $77.5 million, including approximately $10.5 million upfront payment from Frontline.

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. has delivered the Charles David Jr., the seventh Fast Response Cutter (FRC) to the United States Coast Guard. The announcement was made by Bollinger executive vice president of new construction, Chris Bollinger, “We are very pleased to announce another successful on-time and on-budget FRC delivery to the Coast Guard. The Charles David Jr. was delivered to the 7th Coast Guard District in Key West, Fla. and will be stationed at USCG Sector Key West. The 154-foot patrol craft Charles David Jr. is the seventh vessel in the Coast Guard's Sentinel-class FRC program.

The newest ROV support vessel to service Asia Pacific’s oil and gas industry has been launched in Singapore. Around 100 invited guests from across the global energy sector attended the christening ceremony of the Harkand Harmony at Keppel Marina. Sophie Mottais-Trouve, the wife of Harkand’s Vice President of Commercial and Strategy Olivier Trouve, opened the festivities by officially naming the 65m vessel. The Harmony’s christening follows two major milestones for the group, Harkand said.

Harkand said it is pursuing its investment strategy in Asia Pacific with the addition of a multi-million dollar new build ROV support vessel and the appointment of a new general manager to lead future growth. In the first of two major milestones for the group, the Harkand Harmony has been secured on a three-year hire purchase that will see Harkand extend its inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) services in the growing Asia Pacific region. The 65-meter vessel, built by ASL Marine Holdings at Batam near Singapore, will be fitted with one Comanche workclass ROV for ROV support and air diving activities in the region, as well as a full survey kit and team for survey operations.

The Harkand Group signs a deal with Forum Subsea Technologies that will see it extend its ROV fleet by 25% & create 30 new full time jobs. Harkand, formed through the recent merger of Iremis, Integrated Subsea Services (ISS) and Andrews Survey following investment by Oaktree Capital Management, has bases in Aberdeen in the UK, Dubai in the Middle East and Singapore and Perth in Asia Pacific. The program, which on delivery will see Harkand’s fleet grow to 29 vehicles, includes three Triton XLX 150HP workclass ROVs and one Comanche, with an option for a further two XLX vehicles.

Aberdeen-based subsea installation contractor Bibby Offshore has announced investment of around £11million in Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) systems for its latest division, Bibby Remote Intervention Limited (BRIL). Initial investment of close to £4million has been made in ROV systems for Bibby Offshore’s fleet of Diving Support Vessels (DSVs) to bring the service provision in-house, while 46 jobs have been created on and offshore within the division already this year. BRIL has installed Sub Atlantic Comanche ROVs on all three of Bibby Offshore’s North Sea fleet of DSVs…

Forum Subsea Technologies has officially launched Tomahawk, the latest addition to its range of multi-role remote operated vehicles (ROVs). Tomahawk has been built to be fast and agile and it shares the same 35kw power system and thrusters as Forum’s largest electric, the Comanche. Technip was awarded a contract by Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC), for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning assistance of their Gas and Condensate Export System project. The project is spread over onshore and offshore locations in two countries, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The objective of the project is to deliver a combination of lean gas, condensate and sour gas through a single 12” export pipeline from Al Khafji Joint Operations (KJO) facilities in Saudi Arabia to Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) tie-in facility,namely the Intermediate Slug Catcher being constructed under KOC Project No EF/1718 near Al-Ahmadi, Kuwait.

This "retriever" technique used swimmers clad in wet suits to swim to victims in the water and secure a line to them so they could be hauled onto the ship.

1954-USS Asterion and SS Kokoku Maru collided in a heavy fog 40 miles west of San Francisco, killing one crewman of the latter ship and injuring three others. The Coast Guard cutters Magnolia, Comanche, Avoyel, and patrol boat CG-95311, as well as two commercial tugs, converged on the scene. Comanche and Magnolia successfully removed all 43 survivors from the disabled Kokoku Maru, all of whom were subsequently delivered safely ashore. Although Asterion was able to proceed under its own power, the Japanese ship had to be towed by the commercial tugs to San Francisco. When the bilge pumps on one of the tugs failed, Coast Guard aircraft dropped emergency pumping equipment to control the flooding. The two tugs then successfully towed the Kokoku Maru into San Francisco harbor.

IXSEA has completed work on the SV John Lethbridge on behalf of Comex Deep Sea Salvage Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Subsea Resources PLC. The refit was undertaken by H2X shipyard in cooperation with IXSEA and COMEX SA. The vessel is currently in the Atlantic working on a number of projects including the Miranda project and the Ella project. The survey ship is equipped with top of the range sonar equipment, fitted by IXSEA, which is capable of surveying depths to 6000 m as well as a Comanche Sub-Atlantic ROV, which can reach similar depths. The ROV has two work manipulators, HMI lights, digital cameras and flash and 100kgf/ 200 lbf DC Thrusters.

TBS International Limited has expanded its fleet of vessels by taking delivery of the M.V. Comanche Belle. The M.V. Comanche Belle, which will be renamed the Huron Maiden, is a 23,300 dwt multipurpose tweendecker that was built in 1983. TBS exercised the purchase option granted under the time charter dated December 9, 1996 to purchase the vessel for $3.8 million. It was delivered in Pusan, Korea on November 16, 2005. The acquisition of the M.V. Comanche Belle was previously disclosed in TBS's filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, including the quarterly report on Form 10-Q, for the quarter ended September 30, 2005, filed on November 10, 2005.

Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN), announced the inclusion of three new vessels in its current contract with Global Industries for VSAT services. Currently providing VSAT services on two of Global’s vessels, MTN will now install its communications suite on three additional barges. The new vessels, the Cheyenne, the Iroquois, and the Tonkawa, will now benefit from MTN’s communications advantages along with their sister barges the Navajo and Comanche. Global Industries provides offshore construction, engineering and support services including pipeline construction, platform installation and removal, and diving services to the oil and gas industry off most of the world’s coastlines.

Benefits of fitting CLT propellers include fuel savings of around 10 percent while maintaining the same speed, according to Geneva-based shipowner Cargill International SA, which has recently released consumption figures for two of its Panamax bulk carriers. The 70,000 dwt Powhatan and Paiute had CLT propellers retrofitted in February and March 1998, after Cargill had already benefited from more than two years' first-hand experience of the CLT propeller concept developed by Madrid-based designer Sistemar. Cargill first fitted a CLT propeller to one of its vessels in 1995, the 13,600 dwt orange juice carrier Bebedouro, and subsequently to two Capesize bulk carriers, the 164,000 dwt Cherokee and Comanche, as well as Powhatan and Paiute.
