ABB will deliver the shaft generator system with permanent magnet technology for the first dedicated CO2-storage vessels ever to be built. Drydocks Orders Kanfa FPSO Topside Module

UAE-based shipyard Drydocks World has signed a contract with Norway-based Kanfa to deliver a topside module for a floating production storage and offloading vessel.In what will be the first collaboration between Drydocks World and Kanfa, the M10 module will be placed on the main deck of the FPSO.The module will be used to process crude oil received from oil wells, which will be dewatered and stabilised to meet export quality specifications. BHP Taps McDermott for GoM Subsea Installation

Offshore installation company McDermott has won a contract with oil firm BHP for a marine installation campaign for the Shenzi Subsea Multiphase Pumping Project (SSMPP) in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.The project is located around 138 miles (222 kilometers) offshore in the Gulf of Mexico at a water depth of 4,400 feet (1341 meters)."We look forward to continuing our partnership with BHP through this latest contract award," said Mark Coscio, Senior Vice President for McDermott's North, Central, and South America region.

Petrobras Awards Long-Term Mero Deal to DOF's Skandi Salvador Vessel

Norwegian offshore vessel owner DOF has won a contract with the Petrobras-led Libra consortium to provide a multi-purpose support vessel for work at the Mero offshore oil field in Brazil.The Libra Consortium is led by Petrobras - with a 40% interest - in partnership with Shell Brasil (20%) ; Total (20%), CNODC (10%) and CNOOC Limited (10%). Modest Tree to Provide Virtual Reality Training for MAN

MAN Energy Solutions has selected Nova Scotia-based simulation and training software developer, Modest Tree, to develop a virtual reality training solution for the engines onboard the Royal Canadian Navy’s new Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships under construction at Halifax Shipyard.The virtual reality training solution, the first of its kind in the marine sector, will train the men and women of the Royal Canadian Navy to operate and maintain the ship’s engines.Each Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship will be propelled by two MAN Energy Solutions 4.5 megawatt diesel/electric propulsion engines.MAN Energy Solutions is a subcontractor of GE Canada, the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship Integrated Propulsion System Integrator.

Petrofac Consortium Awarded USD 4bn Project in Thailand

Aibel Bags Greater Enfield Project Contract

Aibel Pte Ltd in Singapore has been awarded the E&P contract for modifications on Woodside Energy Ltd’s Nguijma-Yin floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) off Western Australia. The FPSO will undergo modifications to the topsides, hull and turret, along with installation of a new Custom Water Flood module. The contract includes both detailed marine and topsides engineering and procurement services as well as commissioning services. At the peak the Greater Enfield Project will engage more than 100 employees. The work will be executed by Aibel`s office in Singapore. The contract is expected to commence in July this year and is presently targeted to be completed January 2019. Greater Enfield is located 60 km off Exmouth in Western Australia.

Milestone for Canada’s Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships

GE’s Marine Solutions business in Peterborough, Ontario is completing one of the first milestones of the company’s seven-year contract with Irving Shipbuilding Inc.,(ISI) to provide electrical power, propulsion systems, installation and commissioning services for six ice-capable Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) for the Royal Canadian Navy. GE’s power and propulsion systems will position the new vessels amongst the highest performance in their class worldwide. Four diesel generators and engines have been shipped to ISI’s Halifax Shipyard, and GE has begun acceptance testing on the first AOPS propulsion motor, expected to ship in early July. GE suppliers located in Ontario are contributing to the project providing steel, skids, metal and machining.

ABB to Power Tallink's LNG Ferry

ABB has won an order to deliver complete electric power plant, electrical propulsion systems and an energy management solution for Estonia-based Tallink Grupp´s new liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered fast ferry. The large-scale ferry will be built at Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland for delivery in the beginning of 2017. The vessel will be about 212 meters in length with a gross tonnage of 49,000. The ferry, planned to carry 2,800 passengers, will operate between Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, and Helsinki, the capital of Finland.

Wärtsilä to Power LNG-fueled RoPax Ferry

A ferry being built for Sweden’s Rederi AB Gotland will be fueled by LNG, featuring a Wärtsilä integrated solution which includes a complete LNG powered propulsion- and fuel storage and supply system, as well as comprehensive project services. It will be the first Swedish flagged LNG powered passenger vessel and the first LNG-fuelled high speed RoPax ferry in the world. The vessel will be built at the Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) yard in China and when delivered, will sail between the Swedish mainland and the island of Gotland. GSI placed the contract with Wärtsilä in November.

Aker Solutions Wins North Sea Contracts

Norwegian oil services firm Aker Solutions won two offshore contracts, including a 120 million pound ($188.82 million) deal to provide engineering, construction and commissioning services on Statoil's Mariner development in the UK, it said on Monday. The firm also won a two-year contract extension worth 360 million Norwegian crowns for asset integrity management work at 11 offshore and three onshore locations for Statoil in Norway. Aker Solutions Wins Mariner Development Deal

Aker Solutions secured a contract from Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering to provide engineering, construction and commissioning services for the hook-up phase of the Mariner oilfield development in the UK North Sea. The agreement is worth more than GBP 120 million. It comes in addition to a five-year maintenance and modifications services contract awarded in June by Statoil for the Mariner field, which is set to start production in 2017. "We are very pleased to be expanding our already significant role in developing the Mariner field and to be working with Daewoo and Statoil," said Tore Sjursen, head of Aker Solutions' maintenance, modifications and operations (MMO) business.

Brazil Navy expands network to 10 AXYS 3 Meter buoys

XYS Technologies Inc (AXYS) recently shipped two 3-Meter buoys for the Centro de Hidrografia da Marinha (CHM) of the Diretoria de Hidrografia e Navegacao (DHN) in Niteroi. The buoys will be added to the PNBOIA (GOOS-Brasil) buoy network, bringing the total number of 3-Meter buoys owned by the Navy to ten. The buoys will be deployed offshore in an effort to provide complete coverage of the Brazil coastline. They will be integrated using AXYS’ reliable WatchMan500 controller and various sensors to measure directional waves, currents, wind speed and direction, air pressure, air temperature, relative humidity and solar radiation. Real-time data will be sent to Brazil Navy officials via ARGOS and/or Inmarsat satellite telemetry.

Offshore: Ulstein and the First U.S. Built X-Bow

Veteran Norwegian designer and builder Ulstein will, for the first time, build one of its signature X-Bow hull designs in the U.S., Maritime Reporter has learned. Edison Chouest Offshore’s LaShip shipyard in Louisiana is keen to build, and has found a Norwegian partner to share the risk. Judging by ever-evolving Ulstein business models and Jones Act strictures, Ulstein’s U.S. foray could lead to series production of the SX 165 offshore construction vessel. The U.S.-built combined light well-intervention and inspection, maintenance and repair vessel will be the second of the type.

Wärtsilä enters Paraguayan Inland Market

A new pushboat used to push barges convoys along the Paraguay River will be powered by a Wärtsilä integrated propulsion solution. The vessel is being built at the "Astillero la Barca del Pescador" (Shipyard SA) yard in Paraguay on behalf of Naviera Yeruti, a Paraguayan company with extensive barge construction and vessel operating interests. This vessel will be the company's first pushboat and it is scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 2015. The contract with Shipyard SA was signed in December 2013 and Wärtsilä's equipment will be delivered in the third quarter of 2014.
