Port Hedland Continues to Forge Ties with Vietnam

Australia's Massive Shipbuilding Plan Announced

The Australian Government has thrown domestic shipbuilders an A$89 billion (US$ 66 billion) lifeline. It plans to deliver a long-term plan for a strong and sustainable naval shipbuilding industry. Over the next 20 years the Government will invest the $89 billion in ships and submarines for the Navy. It's also still unclear whether local yards will benefit from a submarine program that accounts for a hefty chunk of the promised funding. This critical investment will generate significant economic growth and sustain several thousand Australian jobs over decades. It is a key part of our commitment to a safe and secure Australia. The Government will implement a continuous build of surface warships in Australia.

Paradip Port on a robust expansion mode

Paradip Port, one of the twelve major ports of India, located close to the mineral rich states on the East coast plans to add significant capacity to meet the ever increasing demand in the region. As a part of its capacity expansion program, Paradip Port Trust intends to develop a Western Dock complex comprising of 6 berths each with a capacity of at least 10 MTPA. In this regard, PPT conducted a conference yesterday for potential investors to present the opportunity and take feedback from the investor community. The Port is situated at 210 nautical miles south of Kolkata has seen a steady growth in traffic over the years having handled an all time record cargo of 68 million tonnes in the last financial year 2013-14 with a growth of 20.25%.

Multi-Purpose Common User Facility At DP World London Gateway

In another milestone in the development of its London Gateway Logistics Park, DP World has announced Buckingham Group has been awarded the contract to build the Common User Facility (CUF). Following a period of ground preparation and development of key infrastructure by DP World, Buckingham Group is now mobilising to start construction, with the new logistics centre planned for completion in Q1 2015. The 375,000 square foot multi-purpose specialist cargo handling centre will be built in two phases and will be fully integrated with the new deep-sea container port DP World London Gateway. DP World Invests in London Gateway

The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Fiona Woolf, welcomed the foreign direct investment by Dubai’s DP World into London Gateway, while visiting the recently opened deep-sea container port and Europe’s largest logistics park. During her visit, the Lord Mayor, climbed one of the world’s largest quay cranes to have an elevated view of the massive three square mile site, where work is underway for a Common User Facility and other proposed distribution centers. Warship Construction Delay Beneficial Says Australia's Defence

Australia is constructing three Air Warfare Destroyers (AWD) & Defence Ministry has been advised it best to allow more time between each keel-laying. Minister for Defence Stephen Smith, Minister for Finance and Deregulation Senator Penny Wong and Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare attended the laying of the keel of the first Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) in Adelaide and provided an update on the $8 billion project. ASC in Adelaide is the principal shipbuilder in the project. BAE Systems in Melbourne, Forgacs in Newcastle and Navantia in Spain are also building modular blocks which will be brought together by ASC at the South Australian Government’s Common User Facility in Adelaide where the ships are being assembled.

Strategic Marine - Floating Dry Dock

Strategic Marine has successfully launched the base of the floating dry dock it has on order from the Australian Marine Complex (AMC) on schedule from its Vietnamese shipyard. The dock’s 4,400 tonne base was launched flawlessly from the company’s facility at Dong Xuyen Industrial Zone at Ba-Riang Vung Tau at 4pm on Tuesday, November 18. The 99m long and 53m wide base was then lifted aboard a Dockside submersible vessel “The Teal” for its eight-day journey to the AMC at Henderson in Western Australia.
