Bi-national Great Lakes Seaway Partnership Launched

The American Great Lakes Ports Association in partnership with the Lake Carriers’ Association, Fednav Limited, and the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, have jointly sponsored a new bi-national public affairs program called The Great Lakes Seaway Partnership. Astrium Services Renamed Airbus Defence and Space

Astrium Services, the global innovative provider of satellite enabled solutions, has announced that it will operate with immediate effect under its new name Airbus Defence and Space, a division of Airbus Group. The change from Astrium Services to the new Airbus Defence and Space is part of a rebranding throughout the wider EADS organization. Earlier this year, EADS became Airbus Group, with three distinct divisions: Airbus, Airbus Defence and Space, and Airbus Helicopters. The entire Astrium Services portfolio of satellite communications and geo information services will continue under the newly created Communication, Intelligence & Security (CIS) business line of Airbus Defence and Space.

The Great Maritime Disruption… that Never Happened

Y2K. Remember the dire warnings four years ago as the world raced towards the stroke of midnight ushering in 2000? Editorials screamed that computer systems everywhere would fail making bank accounts inaccessible, traffic lights inoperable and the whole air traffic control system would come to a screeching halt leaving airplanes without guidance. Y2K disaster preparation "kits" were sold over the Internet as survivalists worried about governments all over the world failing and universal chaos occurring. Despite all these dire predictions from experts and average citizens alike governments, working in partnerships with industry (both large and small), took a very proactive approach, developed solutions and the great cyber meltdown never occurred.

SSC San Diego Researchers Selected as DON Top Scientists and Engineers

Six Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SSC) San Diego researchers were selected for the Department of the Navy Top Scientists and Engineers Program 2006, Sept. Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development, and Acquisition Dr. Delores Etter selected Dr. Roy Axford and Jeff Waters for the category of "Top Scientists"; and Michael Thorpe, Estrellina Pacis, Dr. Richard Waters, and Dr. Joseph Neff for the "Top Emerging Investigators" category. Harris Logs onto Milstar Satellite

Harris Corporation has completed another major milestone in a $1b U.S. Navy communications program competition: logging onto a Milstar satellite using an Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) Navy Multiband Terminal prototype system onboard a platform that simulates submarine conditions. Harris has successfully demonstrated low data rate(LDR), medium data rate (MDR) and extended data rate (XDR) logon for the various ship and shore terminals -- including submarine mast and periscope versions -- under simulated platform motion consistent with high-sea states. The successful demonstrations are the culmination of three years of waveform design and hardware/software development as part of the AEHF Navy Multiband Terminal program.

Anteon Awarded $23.6M Navy Contract

Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) has awarded Anteon a five-year contract valued at $23.6 million. Under this contract, Anteon will provide systems engineering and development support for NUWC's Communications and Electronic Support Measures Programs. The work will be performed in Newport, R.I., and Mystic, Conn. The NUWC provides the technical foundation for the conceptualization, research and development, modernization and maintenance of U.S. Navy undersea systems. Specific programs to be supported under this contract include the Common Submarine Radio Room, Submarine Satellite Communications Program, High Data Rate (HDR) Submarine Antenna, Multi-Function Mast Antenna and the Extremely Low Frequency Program.
