China Pushes for Yangtze River Economic Belt

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for achieving high-quality economic growth through developing the Yangtze River economic belt. Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks at a symposium on promoting the development of the Yangtze River economic belt in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province. He stressed the importance of enhancing reform and innovation, strategic coordination as well as planning and guiding in developing the economic belt. "It is a major decision made by the CPC Central Committee and a major strategy concerning overall national development to promote the development of the Yangtze River economic belt," Xi said.

Piraeus Port Signs MoU with Shanghai Port

The Cosco-managed Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) and Shanghai International Port Group, the world's biggest commercial port, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) envisioning cooperation in infrastructure studies, personnel training, information exchange and technical assistance. The MOU was signed by Athanasios Liagkos Executive Management Consultant & BoD member of the PPA SA and the Chairman of Shanghai International Port Group, Chen Xuyuan. This development further highlights Piraeus's strategic position on the world map and especially on the New Silk road. The sectors of cooperation mentioned in the Memorandum are: Project Studies, Staff Training, Information Exchange, Technical Assistance, etc.

China Probes Executives of CSIC, COSCO

China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) and China Ocean Shipping Company (Cosco) are being probed in China’s national anti-corruption scheme, according to a report in the Reuters. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) has not named any company executives as targets for individual inspection. CCDI is the highest internal-control institution of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The watchdog did not name any executives as targets for individual inspection in its statement, but said it warned companies against transgressions such as nepotism, wasteful spending and improper bidding on contracts. China, Vietnam to Look Beyond Sea Disputes

Vietnamese Communist leader Nguyen Phu Trong and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to make joint efforts to manage the South China Sea row. Both countries agreed to friendly negotiations, and the possibility of joint development projects to settle their differences over the resource rich South China Sea. Among the proposals put forward by Li Keqiang include joint inspections with Vietnam in the waters at the mouth of the Beibu Gulf. The waters of the Beibu Gulf, which borders Guangxi and northern Vietnam, have not been completely delineated. The leaders stated that they would “proactively look for transitional resolution methods which do not affect both side’s position, including looking at and discussing joint development” said a joint communiqué.

Keppel Opens Nantong Shipyard

Unveiling the sculpture, Soaring with the Can Do spirit, to commemorate the inauguration of Keppel Nantong Shipyard are Mr Luo Yi Min, Party Secretary of Communist Party of China (CPC) Nantong Committee and Mr Lim Chee Onn, Executive Chairman of Keppel Corporation. Keppel Offshore & Marine Limited (Keppel O&M) has officially opened its new wholly-owned subsidiary, Keppel Nantong Shipyard Co. Ltd (Keppel Nantong), in Nantong, Jiangsu province, China. Min, Party Secretary of Communist Party of China (CPC) Nantong Committee, graced the occasion as the Guest-of-Honour, joined by more than 300 guests. The ceremony was landmarked by the sale of two 45-tonne Azimuth Stern Drive tugboats to Kuwaiti owner, Arabian Gulf Mechanical Services & Contracting (AGMS).
