Scrubber Barge to Capture Ship Exhaust in LA and Long Beach

A new barge is being built to help capture and treat stack exhaust from vessels in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.Produced and operated by Clean Air Engineering - Maritime, Inc. John McDonald will become ABS Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer as Tony Nassif has announced his plans to retire on December 31, 2021.As part of the company’s succession planning process, McDonald will assume the head operations role on July 26, 2021. Celebrating 25 years of service with ABS this year, McDonald joined ABS in 1996 as a surveyor and served in various frontline operational roles in Korea, the Northern Europe and Africa Region and the Central Region for the former Americas Division.

New ATB Handed Over to Crowley

Crowley said it recently took delivery of its new 55,000-barrel, articulated tug-barge (ATB), the Aurora/Qamun. The 410-foot vessel is the second ATB in Crowley’s fleet, after the Aveogan/Oliver Leavitt, to be dedicated to the Alaska market. Greenbrier Launches Crowley's New Alaska Fuel Barge

The Greenbrier Companies, Inc. announced today the launch of Qamun, a 55,000-barrel shallow draft double hull petroleum tank barge built by Greenbrier Marine, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Greenbrier. Crowley Engineering Services provided on-site construction management using an Alaska-specific design by Jensen Maritime, its recently integrated naval architecture and marine engineering firm.The 350-foot barge, which will form part of an articulated tug-barge (ATB) unit, will be paired with the tug Aurora being constructed by Master Boat Builders Inc., Coden, Ala.

New Tank Barge Delivered to OSG

Greenbrier Marine, a division of The Greenbrier Companies, Inc. announced the delivery of OSG 205, a 204,000-barrel capacity oil and chemical tank barge for dual-mode ITB service pursuant to U.S. Coast Guard NVIC 2-81, Change 1. Crowley Completes Challenging Fuel Delivery in the Arctic

Crowley said it overcame a number of challenges to lighter and deliver nearly four million gallons of military specification fuel to Eareckson Air Station on the Aleutian Island of Shemya in Alaska.Shemya’s radar and aircraft refueling station, Eareckson Air Station, and the 180 service members, contractors and civilians who operate it rely on Crowley’s twice-yearly fuel deliveries to supply fuel required for incoming aircraft for the Defense Logistics Agency, U.S. Coast Guard, Air Force and other state and federal agencies.

Darling, Parker join Tidewater

Tidewater has strengthened its management team with the appointments of David Darling as VP and Chief Human Resources Officer and Mark Parker as Vice President, Corporate Taxation. Darling joins Tidewater with over 24 years of domestic and international human resources experience, most recently as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer for Gulfmark Offshore, Inc., where he was the Human Resource Director since 2007. Prior to Gulfmark, he served in executive human resources roles with Rigdon Marine and a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company. Three Maritime Leaders Receive United Seamen's Awards

Arthur E. Imperatore, Founder and President of New York Waterways; Captain Donald Marcus, International President of the International Organization of Masters, Mates & Pilots; and Christopher Wiernicki, Chairman, President and CEO of the American Bureau of Shipping, were recipients of the maritime industry's most prestigious Admiral of the Ocean Sea awards presented at the 47th annual United Seamen's Service gala industry dinner and dance October 28, 2016. The event was held at the at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel, New York City. Recognition was also given to American seafarers for specific acts of bravery and heroism while at sea. Port of New Orleans Board Elects Kearney as Chairman

The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans has elected Mr. Michael W. Kearney chairman. Mr. Kearney represents Orleans Parish and joined the Board in December of 2012 when he was appointed by former Gov. Bobby Jindal. He succeeds Mr. William T. ABS Group Awarded BKR02 Wind Farm Certification Work

England headquartered ABS Group Ltd., a subsidiary of ABS Group of Companies, Inc., said it has received a contract to provide project certification services to DONG Energy Wind Power A/S for the planned Borkum Riffgrund 2 (BKR02), one of the largest offshore wind farms in German waters. Developed by DONG Energy, the BKR02 Project is expected to be fully commissioned in the first half of 2019 with a capacity of 450MW. The wind farm will be located in the German Bight area approximately 60 km north of Eemshaven. ABS Group's certification scope will cover project quality management and document review, as well as manufacturing inspection of the offshore substations (OSS), which includes the topsides and foundations. Inspections will be carried out in several European countries.

ABS Group Signs on Elba LNG Project

ABSG Consulting Inc., a subsidiary of ABS Group of Companies, Inc. (ABS Group), has been contracted by Kinder Morgan, Inc. to develop a Maintenance and Integrity Program for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal at Elba Island (Elba LNG Project) near Savannah, Georgia. ABS Group will develop the maintenance and integrity programs for the base plant, balance of plant and the terminal upgrade. The full scope of ABS Group's services cover program development and execution, including project management, strategy development and business processes, asset register, mechanical integrity (MI), preventative maintenance development, spare parts and bill of materials, as well as data asset management services.

Grove Named ABS Group President, CEO

ABS Group of Companies, Inc. announced the appointment of Todd Grove as its new President and CEO. Grove most recently served as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for ABS Group's parent company, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). He has served more than 30 years at ABS, in various senior technical and operational management roles across the world. Grove holds a bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan, an MBA from the University of Houston and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program.

West Coast Port Slowdown Could Cause Two Month Delays

Congestion at the U.S. West Coast ports could take as much as two months to unwind, according to port and trade group officials, with retailers and other companies bracing for further shipment delays after the apparent resolution of a months-long labor dispute. A tentative labor agreement involving 29 ports was announced late on Friday involving 20,000 dockworkers. Tensions over their lack of a contract since July had led to chronic cargo backups. But port officials and companies warned it will take time to restore a normal flow of traffic. "It's not going to be fast," Jon Slangerup, chief executive officer of the Port of Long Beach, told CNBC television. The port slowdown has rippled through the U.S. economy including the retail, auto and agriculture sectors.

Greenbrier Condoles the Passing of Emeritus Board Member Atiyeh

The Greenbrier Companies, Inc. says it joins all of Oregon in expressing its condolences to the family of Victor G. (“Vic”) Atiyeh, former Governor and past member of Greenbrier’s board of directors. Atiyeh died late Sunday at the age of 91. He is remembered as a two-term Governor who helped shape the modern economy of Oregon, where Greenbrier continues to grow and prosper to this day. Atiyeh completed eight successful years as Governor from 1979-1987 that were preceded by decades of impactful service in the Oregon Legislature. During his tenure as Governor, Atiyeh helped preserve Gunderson, a manufacturing institution on the Portland Harbor since 1919, by sponsoring debt financing provided by Oregon’s Public Employees Retirement System to assist Greenbrier’s acquisition of Gunderson.

ABS announced a change in leadership with the election of Christopher J. Wiernicki, currently President and Chief Executive Officer of ABS, to the position of Chairman of ABS. This decision was made by the ABS Board of Directors, who voted at their April meeting to transfer the additional duties of Chairman to Wiernicki. With the expanding scope of classification in recent years, it is clear that the role of class will continue to change at an accelerated pace, and Wiernicki is optimistic about the organization's ability to meet this challenge.

Gunderson to Build Tank Barge for Kirby

The Greenbrier Companies, Inc. announced that its Gunderson Marine division has received an order from Kirby Offshore Marine to build an articulated oceangoing oil and chemical tank barge, with an option for a second unit, to meet growing demand. The state-of-the-art 578' tank barge is one of the largest in Gunderson’s marine history, and has an 185,000 barrel carrying capacity. This order, along with awards being finalized, will bring Greenbrier’s current marine backlog to about $70 million. Construction on the Kirby barge will begin in June 2014, with completion scheduled in 2015. The outlook for transportation of goods by oceangoing barge is strong, and Greenbrier, through Gunderson Marine, said it is well-positioned to meet new barge demand.

Explosion Rocks Natural Gas Processing Plant In Wyoming

An explosion on Wednesday rocked a natural gas-processing plant in Wyoming that can churn out about 2 percent of the daily U.S. gas supply, though no injuries were reported. The blast at the Williams Companies Inc plant in Opal, Wyoming, touched off a fire that was still burning several hours later, company spokeswoman Michele Swanersaid. She said all 42 employees of the evacuated plant had been accounted for and were not injured. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department said the fire had been contained to one area of the plant. Shelters were set up for people in the town of 100 people and nearby Highway 30 was closed. The explosion, the second safety incident suffered by Williams Companies in the last few weeks, could lead to pockets of higher prices in parts of the United States.
