FSG Begins Building SeaRoad’s New Ship

German shipbuilder Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) has cut first steel for a new new roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) freight vessel being constructed for Australian shipping company SeaRoad.A May 20 steel cutting event involved the ceremonial ‘pushing of the button’ to start the laser cutting machine with SeaRoad Technical Marine Manager, Tony Johnson, and FSG CEO Philipp Maracke doing the honors. Johnson is currently on the ground in Germany overseeing the newbuild project.The 210-meter-long newbuild was ordered in 2021 at a cost of more than €100 million.

Wärtsilä's Engines and Electrical Solutions for Australian RoRo Newbuild

Finland-based marine engine maker Wärtsilä said Tuesday it would deliver main and auxiliary engines, fuel storage tanks, gas handling equipment and electrical systems for a new RoRo being built for Australian operator SeaRoad Shipping.The 210 meter-long vessel is being built at the Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) shipyard in Germany. The RoRo vessel will operate primarily on LNG fuel.The vessel will be powered by two Wärtsilä 46DF dual-fuel main engines and three Wärtsilä 20DF dual-fuel auxiliary engines.

Radio Holland and Sperry Marine recently signed a Global Gyrocompass Distribution Agreement with respect to the Sperry Marine’s CompassNet Heading Management System, which includes the NAVIGAT 100 and NAVIGAT 200 spinning mass gyros and the NAVIGAT 2500 and NAVIGAT 3500 Fibre-Optic Gyrocompasses.The global agreement enables Radio Holland offices around the world to sell Sperry Marine’s gyro compass systems, and, in addition, a great many Radio Holland offices to install, commission and service the respective equipment.Contract signing at Radio Holland’s HQ in Rotterdam…

Raytheon Anschütz, a German-based navigation system supplier, delivers its 15,000th Standard 22 Gyro Compass in June 2014. Onboard the superyacht Esmeralda the jubilee compass will replace an old Anschütz Standard 4 Gyro Compass which has been in operation for more than 30 years. The new generation of the Anschütz Gyro Compass – Standard 22 – was presented 10 years ago at SMM in Hamburg. Today, approximately 1,800 Standard 22 compasses are sold per year. Northrop Grumman Awarded US$88-Million Navy Contract

According to the US Department of Defense, Navy, Northrop Grumman Systems Corp., Charlottesville, Va., is being awarded an $88,153,800 contract to acquire integrated bridge systems and steering/ship control systems, related hardware and associated services. DoD explains that the systems are comprised of chart servers, network interface boxes, flat panel displays, radar systems, navigation software, ship control software, global positioning systems, weather sensors, depth sensors, speed sensors, digital compass systems, ship control display systems and sonar systems. These items represent a modernization upgrade from existing systems currently in use.

Raytheon Standard 22 Gyro Compass

Raytheon Anschütz has now introduced new features for its Standard 22 gyro compass. Among the new features the most important improvements are independent transmitting magnetic compass and individual speed error correction functions. Standard 22 will now be equipped with a modified distribution unit, which is enhanced by an independent transmitting magnetic compass (TMC) path. Thus, a failure in the distribution unit or even in the compass system will not affect the processing of the magnetic compass heading.

Major Chinese Order for SAM Electronics

Hamburg-based SAM Electronics, in association with its Chinese subsidiary, SAM Taihang Electronics, has been awarded a contract to supply and install NACOS 54-5 integrated navigation command systems featuring radar-controlled trackpilots, Ecdis and other sensors aboard ten 31,000-dwt multi-purpose heavy lift vessels under construction by Huanghai Shipbuilding of Rongcheng for delivery to Columbia Shipmanagement between 2009 and 2012. Under the contract for ships that will be operated by Austral Asia Line (AAL) on its South East Asia and Australasian routes, SAM Electronics will additionally supply compass systems as well as GMDSS and satellite communications equipment together with associated consoles.
