De Nora Wins Contract for BWTS Retrofits
De Nora, a supplier of equipment for seawater electrochlorination, said it has been awarded a contract to provide its BALPURE ballast water management system by one of North Americaās major oil tanker operators. The BALPURE Twin BP3000-C systems, capable of treating ballast water flow rates up to 6,000m3/h, will be retrofitted in five crude oil tankers ranging in size from 125,000 DWT to 141,740 DWT. The installations will take place from mid-2016 to 2018. BALPURE utilizes electrolytic disinfection technology to provide ballast water management. In addition to being IMO Type-Approved and USCG AMS-Certified, the system has been Bureau Veritas Type-Approved and ABS Design Assessed.
FLNG Birth of a Market
FLNG deal-making has been sporadic since Woodside Petroleum at the end of 2013 delayed a final investment decision for the giant Browse FLNG project off Northwest Australia. The previous year had seen go-aheads for most of the floating liquefied natural gas projects (FLNG) underway today, including Shellās Prelude FLNG ā Woodsideās choice, it seems, of a liquefaction solution for fields 200 kilometers offshore. Yet Prelude, āthe first project outā, might not be first to produce.

UK Shipyard Spotlights Ferry 'Bespoke Eco-Packages'
Cammell Laird says it has developed one of the most advanced ābespoke environmentalā packages for ferries in the shipyard industry, following its strongest year of trading in the sector. Cammell Laird technical manager Paul Ashcroft said āa massive challenge and focusā for the sector moving forward is to find cost effective solutions to the new environmental standards ferry companies have to meet. āThere has never been greater pressure on ferry companies to become greener than now,ā he said. āAs a result we have developed a highly advanced and specialised new environmental package addressing some of the hardest challenges. Mr Ashcroft said Cammell Lairdās green package has been developed to be bespoke and address the challenges faced by each individual ferry.
Cammell Laird Environmental Package Targets Ferry Market
Birkenhead shipyard and engineering services company Cammell Laird said it has developed an advanced shipyard environmental package for ferries, following its strongest year of trading in the sector. Cammell Laird said it has docked 24 ferries between 2013 and the beginning of 2014 and, in addition, has carried out a further 24 afloat repairs for ferry operators. During 2013 Cammell Laird repaired, built and converted almost 250,000 gross tons of ferry and Ro-Ro ships for a wide range of owners. Already in 2014 it has docked and repaired ferries of 150,000 gross tons.
U.S. Coast Guard Accepts Nine BWTS as AMS
Followers of the Ballast Water Treatement System (BWTS) situation (ie. presumably anyone reading this publication) were heartened last month when the U.S Coast Guard announced its acceptance of nine BWTS as Alternate Management Systems (AMS), helping to finally bring some clarity to ship owners, yards and suppliers. On April 15, 2013, the USCG announced the acceptance of the ballast water treatment systems as AMS in compliance with the serviceās March 2012 final rule for Standards for Living Organisms in Shipsā Ballast Water Discharged (SLOSBWD) in U.S. waters.
Balpure BWTS Receives USCG Certification
The IMO Type-Approved Balpure ballast water treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora has become one of the first ballast water treatment technologies to receive the United States Coast Guardās (USCG) Alternate Management System (AMS) certification. AMS certification identifies an IMO Type-Approved system that meets the USCG requirements. Ships are required to have onboard ballast water treatment systems that prevent invasive species from being shipped into U.S. waters. The AMS certification has specifically approved the use of BALPUREā¦
BALPURE BWT System is BV Type Approved
The Type-Approved BALPURE ballast water treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora has received type approval from classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) for its full range of standard ballast water treatment systems that can treat ballast water flow rates of up to 5,000 m3/h. Standard systems can be supplied as multiple sets to treat higher flow rates. The type approval was granted by BV following stringent review of the BALPURE system per BV rules and guidelines along with the guidelines contained in the IMO Resolution MEPC.174(58).
