Wärtsilä, Carnival Ink Waste Treatment Systems Deal

Finnish marine equipment manufacturer Wärtsilä said it signed a framework agreement with Carnival Corporation covering the supply and installation of Wärtsilä’s waste water and dry waste treatment systems for up to 32 vessels across many of global cruise ship operator’s brands. A top hostage negotiator, the CEO of a company which supplies environmental products to ship owners and operators and the heads of two maritime technology firms are all part of an impressive line-up of speakers scheduled to speak at the 2019 Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) AGM & Conference which takes place next week from Tuesday, October 29, to Friday, November 1. The four-day event is being hosted by WISTA Cayman Islands and is expected to bring over 200 maritime experts from 30-plus countries.

Subsea7 Upgrades BWTS at Optimarin

An Optimarin Ballast System (OBS) installed on Seven Pacific, a Subsea7 vessel, in 2015 has been upgraded to meet the ballast water treatment system (BWTS) requirements of the United States Coast Guard (USCG).The Norway-based BWTS provider said in a press release that it originally installed its UV-based technology onboard the advanced offshore construction and pipe-laying vessel in 2015. Since that point the 667-m3 market proven system has, according to Seven Pacific Chief Engineer Oddgeir Refvik, been running smoothly, with minimal maintenance and easy operation.Refvik described the upgrade as “very straightforward”. Ocean Signal Introduces New AIS Transponders

Ocean Signal has rolled out its new ATA100 Class A and ATB1 Class B AIS transponders as fully compliant solutions to increase visibility, aid collision-avoidance and enhance navigational safety for a range of commercial workboats, support vessels and fishing boats. The AIS transponders were unveiled for the first time at Asia Pacific Maritime. The ATA100 is a combined SOLAS and Inland approved single-unit device capable of exchanging dynamic and static ship data with other AIS systems and developed to meet the latest IMO carriage requirements and IEC standards.

Total Joins SEA\LNG Coalition

Total, the world’s fourth-ranked international oil and gas company, has joined SEA\LNG, a multi-sector industry coalition created to accelerate the widespread adoption of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel. Total is a global gas player, involved across the entire LNG chain, from extracting natural gas onshore and offshore to processing plants where it is liquefied, stored and shipped in a fleet of specially designed carriers to regasification terminals for delivery to business customers. In 2015, the Group’s LNG production was of 10.2 million tons. Total’s objective is to double its liquefaction capacity to around 20 Mt/y and increase its LNG trading portfolio to 15 Mt/y by 2020.

Wärtsilä Design for Krill Fishing in Antarctic

The world's biggest and most modern krill fishing factory vessel is to be designed by Wärtsilä. The vessel will operate in the pristine waters of the Antarctic, a World Heritage site, and the Wärtsilä design provides an appropriately sustainable environmental solution. The contract, which was signed in December 2015, has been placed by Shanghai based Hansail Marine & Offshore Design and will feature Wärtsilä's VS 6206 FT design. The vessel is to be built for Jiangsu Sunline Deep Sea Fisheries Co, based in China. Wärtsilä's extensive experience in designing highly efficient fishing vessels was an important factor in the award of this contract.

Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS), the world’s leading maritime services provider, has expanded its network in Central and South America with the opening of ISS Venezuela in Puerto La Cruz, to satisfy strong customer demand. Port Manager, Aldo M. Heikinheimo New President of Napa Group

Juha Heikinheimo (54) was appointed President of Napa Group (Napa Ltd), a leading provider of software solutions for the maritime industry. The appointment takes effect on September 1, 2011. Mr Heikinheimo assumes the position from Matti Salo, who successfully served as President of Napa Group for eleven years. Mr Salo will continue as President of the subsidiary, Onboard-Napa Ltd. He will focus his attention on customers and boosting the growth of the NAPA for Operations business. Heikinheimo has extensive experience of the shipbuilding industry.
