IYRS Boatbuilding Grads Row Their Own Boats

Students from the IYRS Boatbuilding & Restoration Program will launch their careers, along with the boats they restored this past year as they graduate June 1, 2013. International sports figure and North Sails President Ken Read will help mark the start of students’ career paths as featured graduation speaker at this marine trades and technology school in Rhode Island. Read is a fitting person to clue IYRS graduates into the opportunities that lie ahead for those with craftsmanship skills and a passion for working with their hands around boats.

When guests arrived at IYRS Annual Summer Gala--the annual fundraiser for this Rhode Island marine trades and technology school--they came ready for a great party. But the crowd of gala-goers also gathered at this waterfront school for a reason that runs far deeper than a good time through this maritime community: to celebrate the craftsmanship of IYRS students and graduates and ensure continued opportunity for the generation to follow. The exhibits and film told the story of a school that has evolved since the first students walked through the doors in 1997.

GD to Purchase Advanced Technical Products

General Dynamics and Advanced Technical Products, Inc. today entered into a definitive agreement for General Dynamics to acquire all 5.89 million outstanding shares of Advanced Technical Products (ATP) for a cash purchase price of $33.50 per share. In addition, General Dynamics would assume approximately $36.2 million of ATP's net debt and retire approximately $16.2 million in ATP stock options, bringing the transaction's value to approximately $250 million. The acquisition would be immediately accretive to General Dynamics' earnings. ATP closed at $28.53 in yesterday's trading. The proposed transaction, unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies, is subject to ATP shareholder and regulatory approval and customary closing conditions.

Goodrich Included on LCS Team

Goodrich Corporation is a member of the Raytheon-led team recently selected by the U.S. Navy to finalize preliminary designs of a Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) -- the next- generation surface combatant. The team has seven-months to finalize designs. In addition to Raytheon as the prime contractor, the team consists of Goodrich's Jacksonville, Florida-based Engineered Polymer Products division along with John J. McMullen and Associates, Umoe Mandal, and Atlantic Marine, Inc. The foundation for the team's design is an all-composite ship with a twin-hull/catamaran design using the latest in composites technology provided by Goodrich. Goodrich's composite expertise…
