SSC San Diego Researchers Selected as DON Top Scientists and Engineers
Six Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SSC) San Diego researchers were selected for the Department of the Navy Top Scientists and Engineers Program 2006, Sept. Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development, and Acquisition Dr. Delores Etter selected Dr. Roy Axford and Jeff Waters for the category of "Top Scientists"; and Michael Thorpe, Estrellina Pacis, Dr. Richard Waters, and Dr. Joseph Neff for the "Top Emerging Investigators" category. Australian Ports in Chaos
An Australian newspaper reports that a new customs computer system for port security is causing chaos in Sydney. Sydney's Port Botany, the nation's second-largest port, is operating at full capacity but has six ships waiting to unload as brokers and freight forwarders attempt to clear 20,000 containers through the Integrated Cargo System. The $250 million Integrated Cargo System computer software system was introduced earlier this month. New South Wales Ports Minister Eric Roozendaal said that the computer software was generating delays that cost businesses $2 million a day.
