Comtech Win Offshore Platform Microwave Communications Contract

Orlando, Florida-based, Comtech Systems, has received a US$2.4-million contract to install the world’s first digital over-the-horizon microwave communications system, to be used on a deep water tension-leg oil platform for a major international oil company. The design of this system was first developed by Comtech Systems, Inc. for a semi-submersible platform in 2008 and was recently deployed in the South China Sea in the summer of 2013. These systems are unique for troposcatter communications because they require a stabilized antenna system on the offshore floating platform able to keep locked to a fixed antenna at a shore location in a variety of sea states…

Hermes Datacomms Scores a First in Myanmar

Hermes Datacommunications is now providing VSAT services in Yangon, Myanmar for one of the world’s leading Oilfield Service Groups. Hermes Datacomms has installed a stabilised antenna at the customer’s worksite, an offshore rig, and linked it back to Yatanarpon Teleport in Yangon, where the customer has telephone and internet access. The service makes use of Comtech “ACM” technology to provide robust and efficient service within the local tropical climate. The service is monitored 24/7 from Hermes global NOC, and local support and site attendance is provided by Hermes’ service partner in Yangon. "Myanmar holds very exciting opportunities for the oil and gas telecommunications sector," said Mohd Faizal Zainal Amri, General Manager, Hermes Malaysia.

Latest DoD Navy Contracts

Comtech EF Data of Tempe, Ariz. Comtech EF Data, Tempe, Ariz., is being awarded a $7,548,254 cost-plus-incentive-fee, cost-plus-fixed-fee, firm-fixed-price contract for development and production of Advanced Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) Interface Processor (ATIP). The ATIP will replace the legacy TDMA Interface Processor. The ATIP is a Layer-2 ethernet bridging device that will be installed on ship, shore and submarine platforms. It provides transparent bridging capability among internet protocol users that are geographically dispersed and connected via Milstar Medium Data Rate (MDR), Advanced Extremely High Frequency MDR/Extended Data Rate (XDR) or Enhanced Polar XDR links.

USN Awards 391 Contractors

The U.S. Navy is awarding indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity multiple award contracts to 391 contractors that will provide for their competition for service requirements solicited by Naval Sea Systems Command, Naval Air Systems Command, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, Naval Supply Systems Command, Military Sealift Command, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Strategic Systems Programs, and the United States Marine Corps. The 22 functional service areas within the scope of the contracts include 1. Research and Development Support. 2. Engineering System Engineering and Process Engineering Support. 3. Modeling, Simulation, Stimulation, and Analysis Support. 4. Prototyping, Pre-Production, Model-Making, and Fabrication Support.
