Orsted Breaks Ground for Taiwan OWP

Construction of Taiwan's Formosa 2, an offshore wind power (OWP) development project, officially broke ground in Miaoli County.Orsted Taiwan said in a statement that it held a ground-breaking ceremony for the onshore substation works for the 900MW Greater Changhua 1&2a offshore wind farm off Taiwan.Ørsted awarded an onshore substation EPC contract to TCC last November. TCC will build two onshore substations, cable corridors, and transition joint bays for the first 900MW Greater Changhua projects. The contract, with an amount over NTD 7bn, is being now executed by Star Energy Corporation (SEC), a 100% subsidiary of TCC.SEC has hired more than 60 additional employees since last year.

Jacobs Bags Saudi Shipyard Contract

Kipevu Oil Terminal to Be Relocated

The Kipevu Oil Terminal at Mombasa Port will be relocated early next year, to Dongo Kundu area, as a result of the ongoing capacity expansion program, the Kenya Ports Authority announced. The new oil terminal is expected to have a capacity to accommodate four vessels of up to 200,000 DWT. The project also involves building new cargo handling facilities with both subsea and land based pipelines and four berths capable of loading/discharging crude oil, HFO, DPK-aviation, AGO-Diesel and PMS-Petrol. The other element is the topside, whose initial implementation will be for three berths but layout will recognize the need for implementation of the fourth berth at a later date.

CCCC Forms Dredging Group in Shanghai

The state-owned infrastructure group China Communications Construction Corporation (CCCC) has established CCCC Dredging at Shanghai’s Free Trade Zone. CCCC Dredging is the first of a series of planned spinoffs as it develops into a holdings company with subsidiaries across various sectors, which it would eventually list overseas. The dredging group has integrated CCCC Tianjin Dredging, CCCC Shanghai Dredging, and CCCC Guangzhou Dredging, CCCC International Shipping, and Hong Kong Marine Construction. The registered capital of CCCC Dredging Group is $1.88bn and it will become the largest dredging company in the world in terms of fleet capacity. CCCC will become a holdings company controlling listed groups focusing on specific sectors, said Zhou Jingbo, chairman of CCCC Dredging (Group).

TEAM Ports & Maritime wins New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) & Turner Construction Corporation contract. The contract is for the design, manufacture, assemble, transport and installation of two HYDRA Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBBs) at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal in New York. The PBBs will provide seamless access for cruise guests from cruise terminal building to NCLÂ’s Breakaway and vice versa. The NCL Breakaway will start turnaround operations in New York as of May 2013.

FMC Technologies Receives Order For CALM Buoys

FMC Technologies, Inc. announced that it has received an order from Ramseyer & Miller International Inc., an affiliate of Techint International Construction Corporation, for the supply of two SOFEC™ CALM (catenary anchor leg mooring) buoy marine export terminals, for installation offshore Ecuador, South America. FMC SOFEC Floating Systems is the designer of the buoys. One of the buoys is planned to be delivered new from inventory, and an essentially identical second buoy is anticipated to be constructed for the project. Each buoy is planned to be equipped for mooring and loading various size export tankers with heavy crude oil received from a new, 300-mile (500-kilometer) pipeline being constructed by Techint. Installation of the buoys is scheduled for early 2003.

Triton Marine Wins $17.6m Deal

Triton Marine Construction Corporation*, Bremerton, Wash., is being awarded a $17,600,000 (base and two options) firm-fixed-price contract for design and construction of Wharf and Pier Improvements at the Navy Inactive Ship Maintenance Office at the Philadelphia Naval Business Center. The work to be performed provides for structural repairs and upgrades to Wharf N, Intrepid Avenue Wharf, Constitution Avenue Wharf, Pier 4, 16th Street Wharf, and Langley Ave Wharf. Vietnam to Build First Tanker

The tanker, named Dung Quat No 1 is scheduled for launch in 2007, the VietNamNet Bridge reported. The Infrastructure Development and Construction Corporation (Licogi) and Contex Construction Company (belonging to Vinashin) are working to acquire the necessary mechanical equipment to build a dry dock 380 x 90 x 15m. Such a dry dock is necessary for construction and repair of vessels of up to 300,000 tonnes. The main dock infrastructure will be completed in June, so that Vinashin can begin building the first 100,000 tonne oil tanker this July. Vinashin is now seeking supply of 4,000 tonnes of steel and iron. The corporation is also hiring 100 qualified engineers from local enterprises and 20 foreign experts from the Republic of Korea and Poland to advise on the project.

In July 2006, the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin) will set about construction of the first oil tanker for Vietnam’s oil and gas industry. The tanker, named Dung Quat No 1 is scheduled for launch in 2007.
