Contecon Guayaquil SA (CGSA) became the first port in South America to obtain a carbon-neutral certification, with the Ecuador Ministry of Environment and environmental ratings agency, Sambito SA, recognizing the company’s strong and priority commitment to the environment.According to ICTSI, the operator of the Port, the certification marking CGSA’s compliance to ISO 14064-1 standards lauds the company’s policies that are directed and translated towards greater sustainability initiatives, as well as the incorporation of technologies that reduces the operation’s impact to Ecuador’s largest and premier maritime gateway.“This carbon neutral certification awarded to Contecon Guayaquil is a testament of our firm and unbreakable commitment to preserve the environment in our own way.

Contecon Guayaquil SA (CGSA),  subsidiary  of Manila-based International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI)  has received the government of Ecuador approval to accommodate mega vessels of up to 305 meters in length at the Port of Guayaquil’s Berths 2 and 3. "ICTSI further strengthened its market position as the main trading gateway in the entire Ecuador after recently getting the government’s nod to service larger vessels," said a press release from the company. (ICTSI) reported audited consolidated financial results for the year ended December 31, 2015 posting revenue from port operations of US$1.051 billion, one percent lower compared to US$1.061 billion the year earlier; Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) of US$450.0 million, two percent higher than the US$443.0 million generated the previous year; and reported Net Income attributable to equity holders of US$58.5 million, down 68 percent compared to the US$182.0 million earned in 2014. Diluted earnings per share for the period declined 85 percent to US$0.011 from US$0.075 in 2014.

APS Technology Group, Inc., a provider of optical character recognition (OCR) and process automation technology solutions for marine and intermodal terminals, announced its entry into the Brazilian market with the award of a terminal automation project at Tecon Suape S/A in Recife, Brazil. Tecon Suape, a member of ICTSI Group, is implementing the APS solutions to support volume growth, reduce operational costs and to meet the Customs mandate to install OCR at its gates. Tecon Suape expects to increase its movement capacity to an annual throughput of 1.5 million containers.
