Polish President Andrzej Duda visited the Port of Rotterdam during his State Visit to the Netherlands in connection with the 75th remembrance of the liberation of the South of the Netherlands.In the presence of Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, the Netherlands Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed for a more intensive partnership between the Port of Rotterdam and the Polish Szczecin and Swinoujscie Seaports Authority.The partnership will focus on consultancy, hinterland connections, strategy and digitization, said a government communication.Cooperation between Poland and the Netherlands goes back a long way.

Netherlands' minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen (Infrastructure and Water Management) accepted the unique document 'Mannheim Convention', which has ensured free trade on the Rhine for over a century and a half, on behalf of Maritime Museum Rotterdam.To mark the 150th anniversary of the convention, the document has been making a historic journey over the Rhine. It has already been exhibited in Mannheim, Bonn and Duisburg, and will now be on display in the Maritime Museum for several months."This Convention ensures that almost 60% of transport between Rotterdam and Germany takes place via water and that there are almost 5 million fewer trucks on the roads.

The Dutch Princess Beatrix, in the presence of the Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, officially opened the 3rd lock chamber Princess Beatrix Lock. The Princess rang a ship’s bell, giving the go-ahead for the first official passage of ships through the new lock.The official opening of the lock closes a construction period of 2.5 years. The two lock heads are each 30 x 60 meters. Each lock head contains two lock gates, each weighing 490,000 kilos and measuring 28 meters wide, 14 meters high and 6.25 meters thick.In total, 44,875 m³ of concrete and 17,900 tons of reinforcement were used to build this new lock.

The first of a total of three lock gates for the new sea lock has arrived at IJmuiden harbour in the Dutch province of North Holland.According to Port of Amsterdam Authority, the lock gate was towed by a tug across the North Sea to its final destination. On its way from South Korea to IJmuiden - with a stopover at Maasvlakte 2 - the lock gate has covered a total of more than 26,000 km. The transport over the last 150 km took 30 hours and went smoothly.Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, said: "It is good that - after a long journey - the first lock gate has now arrived at its destination. The new sea lock, which will be the world’s largest, will be opened later than initially planned. Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, informed the Dutch House of Representatives of the modified schedule for the completion of the lock near IJmuiden yesterday (July 03). The sea lock will be completed 27 months later. The date will consequently be moved to no later than the end of January 2022. The delay will not have any consequences for shipping traffic to and from the ports of the North Sea Canal because the existing Noordersluis lock will now remain operational longer. This does, however, mean that larger ships than is currently the case will not be able to call at our port.

Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen of Infrastructure and Water Management and Ronald Paul (COO Port of Rotterdam Authority) gave the official go-ahead for the deepening of the Nieuwe Waterweg and the Botlek. Rijkswaterstaat and the Port of Rotterdam Authority have joined forces to ensure that sea-going vessels with a draught of 15 metres can also reach the Botlek port. The initiation of the project took place in FutureLand, the information centre about the port of Rotterdam on the Maasvlakte. There, an exhibition will also be inaugurated today on this sizeable project, which represents an important improvement for the accessibility of the Botlek and the competitive position of the port of Rotterdam.

Every year maritime government officials from across the world travel to Malmo, Sweden, to enrol at the World Maritime University (WMU). The WMU was founded by the International eMaritime Organization (IMO) in 1983 and holds a unique position as the only institution focused entirely on maritime education, research and capacity building. One thing has been missing from the curriculum, however, and through a donation and partnership with Maersk Line, courses on corruption awareness and business integrity will now be mandatory for all students. Announcing the partnership today also marks the United Nations International Anti-Corruption Day on 9 December. A family of four rescued from their sailboat after their infant daughter became seriously ill at sea returned safely to San Diego on Wednesday aboard a U.S. warship that picked them up in the Pacific over the weekend, a Navy spokeswoman said. The parents, Eric and Charlotte Kaufman, and their two daughters, 3-year-old Cora and 1-year-old Lyra, left the Navy frigate Vandegrift after the ship arrived in port around 10 a.m. local time and proceeded to their family doctor, according to Lieutenant Lenaya Rotklein of the Third Fleet. Rotklein declined to give any further information about the arrival of the Kaufmans at Naval Air Station North Island on San Diego Bay except to say all four family members were "stable when they departed" and were met at the port by relatives.

A family of four rescued from their sailboat after the youngest of two children became seriously ill are due to return to California on Wednesday aboard a U.S. warship that picked them up over the weekend, Navy and Coast Guard officials said. Military officials declined on Monday to give any details on the medical condition of 1-year-old Lyra Kaufman except to say that she, her 3-year-old sister, Cora, and their parents, Eric and Charlotte Kaufman, were all safe as they headed back to port in San Diego.
