PSE Kinsale Energy Charters Siem Pearl AHTS for P&A Support in Ireland
Norwegian offshore vessel operator Siem Offshore has won a three-month charter for the 91-meters long AHTS vessel Siem Pearl in Ireland.The contract is with PSE Kinsale Energy Ltd, the Irish subsidiary of the Malaysian oil giant Petronas, which is currently working to decommission its Kinsale area fields off Ireland.The Kinsale area offshore gas fields in the Celtic Sea in July last year officially ceased production, after more than 40 years online. UL Smart Robot Explores Irish Wrecks
An advanced âsmart technologyâ marine robot designed and built by University of Limerick researchers was recently deployed to explore wrecks of The Aud and WW1 U-Boat, UC42 outside Cork Harbour. The Aud was scuttled by its crew while under Royal Navy escort to Cork Harbour after it was prevented from landing guns in 1916 and the UC42 sank in 1917 while laying mines. Oil Recovery Ops off the Irish Coast
In the afternoon on Tuesday 17th February, the Irish authorities decided to request assistance from the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) to combat an oil spill initially detected by EMSAâs CleanSeaNet service 50 miles southeast of Fastnet Rock off the West Cork coast. As a result, the EMSA contracted vessel Galway Fisher has been mobilized and will be in Cork on standby. The alert was provided by the CleanSeaNet European oil spill detection service of EMSA on Saturday 14th February.
