HGK Shipping Acquires BeKa HGK GmbH

Inland waterway shipping company HGK Shipping acquired the remaining 60% of BeKa HGK GmbH as of December 14, 2022, a strategic decision that the company says "significantly intensify its business activities on the Upper Rhine, Danube and Mosel rivers in its dry shipping division." The previous co-shareholder, Monique Hezel-Reyntjens, will continue to manage the business of BeKa HGK. With the takeover, BeKa HGK is assigned to the dry shipping corporate division within HGK Shipping.

Fincantieri Acquires Comms Equipment Supplier

Fincantieri said it has acquired a majority share in communications equipment supplier Support Logistic Services (SLS) as the Italian shipbuilding group continues its push to diversify and expand its product and service portfolio.Rome-based SLS, which produces, installs and maintens radar, satellite and radio communications systems for military and civil applications, will be added under Fincantieri's information technology and electronics subsidiary INSIS, part of the group's newborn Electronics, Systems & Software Division.

Carnival Maritime Opens in Hamburg

Digital support, surveillance and planning for all technical and nautical aspects of the 25 vessels of Costa Crociere, Costa Asia and AIDA fleets are implemented in real time by the Costa Group. Now assisting with these operations and risk/safety management is a new marine service unit, Carnival Maritime, which became fully operational today in Hamburg. “By founding Carnival Maritime, we invested in the most elaborated technologies to create a marine operations unit that supports our captains the best possible way,” explained Michael Thamm, CEO of the Costa Group.

HII Gains Award for Employee Military Service Support

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) informs that two members of its legal team received Patriot Awards from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) for their support of employees who are active in the National Guard or National Reserve. Jim Gildea, vice president and chief counsel of the company's Newport News Shipbuilding division, and Charles Neff, HII's senior staff counsel, were nominated by Leila Garcia, a Newport News Shipbuilding paralegal who serves in the Virginia Air National Guard. Employees serving in the National Guard or Reserve can nominate their supervisors for the Patriot Award to recognize efforts that support employees' military service. Support can include flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, and granting leaves of absence if needed.

Henning Nordgulen has been appointed Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of shipbuilders & offshore service providers Bergen Group ASA. Bergen CEO Asle Solheim said he was very pleased that Nordgulen had accepted the engagement: “Mr. Nordgulen has a comprehensive background from leading positions in finance, shipping and industry. Henning Nordgulen (48) has for the last seven years been Director of the corporate division and a member of the corporate management team in Sparebanken Vest.

MHI Consolidating and Reorganizing

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. has determined to shift to a new business structure by consolidating and reorganizing its current nine business segments into just four business domains: "Energy & Environment," "Commercial Aviation & Transportation Systems," "Integrated Defense & Space Systems" and "Machinery, Equipment & Systems." The reorganization initiative is intended to leverage commonly shared customers, markets, core technologies and business strategies.
