Korea to Establish Maritime Promotion Corporation
Korea Maritime Promotion Corporation (KMPC), a dedicated support organization for the shipping industry, will be established in Busan in June of next year with capital of 5 trillion won (US$4.5 billion), reported BusinessKorea. KMPC is set to offer financial and industrial policy support, in order to reform and upgrade the shipping industry in Korea, in response to the Hanjin Shipping bankruptcy. At Seoul meeting of the ministers of economic affairs, on 24 August, South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced a plan to establish Korea Maritime Promotion Corporation, a support organization for the shipping industry, in Busan, in June 2018.
LaMoureaux Crowley VP Internal Audit, Ethics
Crowley Maritime Corporation announced the promotion of Arthur LaMoureaux to vice president of internal audit, ethics and compliance. He will remain domiciled in Jacksonville and report directly to Crowley's board of directors and administratively to Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President Bill Pennella. "Given the size, scope and diversity of Crowley, we believe it is of the utmost importance to sharpen our focus even further on ethics and compliance," said Tom Crowley, chairman, president and CEO.
Philadelphia Gear Appoints Biddle As NE Regional Sales Manager
Philadelphia Gear Corporation announced the promotion of Scott Biddle, 36, to the newly created position of Northeast Regional Sales Manager. Biddle's new position includes management of sales growth throughout the eastern U.S. - an area already covered by himself, several Philadelphia Gear sales personnel, and three independent firms who represent Philadelphia Gear in their respective territories - along with the expansion of his own sales territory to include eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey. As a regional sales manager, he will work to ensure that Philadelphia Gear customers are serviced in a fashion that meets their immediate needs.
Ecuador Banana Exports Plummet
Ecuador's banana exports dropped 10.6 percent in 2000 compared with 1999, due to an oversupply of the fruit in international markets, the Corporation for the Promotion of Exports and Imports (CORPEI) said in a report. Ecuador exported 180.7 million boxes of bananas in 2000 compared with 202.1 million boxes exported in 1999, according to figures provided by CORPEI. The nation took in $707.9 million from banana sales in 2000, compared with $923.1 million a year earlier. The oversupply of the fruit in international markets led the Ecuadorean government to slash banana prices in April to $2.18 per box from $2.45. The nation's Agricultural and Foreign Trade Ministers set the 2001 price at $2.90 per box on December 29.
