The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA ), a marine cargo operating partnership of the ports of Seattle and Tacoma, has welcome the ZIM Ningbo to its North Harbor.Zim Integrated Shipping Services (ZIM) is expanding its presence at the NWSA by joining the 2M trans-Pacific service calling at Terminal 46 in Seattle, it said in a press release.ZIM will have four of its own vessels in the weekly ZP9 service with increased capacity to serve the NWSA gateway. This will be the first regular call of ZIM vessels at the NWSA since the spring of 2017.“We are proud to welcome ZIM back to our family of steamship lines calling at The Northwest Seaport Alliance,” said Port of Seattle Commissioner Courtney Gregoire.

The Port of Seattle welcomed its newest commissioner, Fred Felleman, as he took the oath of office along with reelected Commissioner Courtney Gregoire at Tuesday’s  Commission meeting. The commission officers for 2016 were also announced. Commissioner John Creighton will serve as Commission President while Commissioner Tom Albro will serve as Commission Vice President, Commissioner Stephanie Bowman will serve as Commission Secretary, Commissioner Courtney Gregoire will serve as Assistant Secretary, and Commissioner Felleman will be Commissioner-at-Large. “The Port of Seattle starts 2016 focused on growing the middle-class jobs that ports bring to the region,” Creighton said.

Washington State Legislature’s passed a $16.2 billion transportation investment package that ports of Tacoma and Seattle say will benefit the state’s economy by speeding the movement of cargo through the ports and freight corridors. The Port of Seattle’s co-presidents Stephanie Bowman and Courtney Gregoire have been reelected by the port’s commission for another full-year term. The commission also elected John Creighton to serve as vice president, Tom Albro to serve as commission secretary and Bill Bryant to serve as assistant secretary. “We began 2014 with a focus on critical issues including enhancing the competitiveness of our seaport, finding the right executive leadership for the port and expanding job opportunities in our communities,” said commission co-president Gregoire.

Holland America Line was named the 2014 Marine Environmental Business of the Year by the Port of Seattle. Port commissioner Courtney Gregoire presented the award to Keith Taylor, senior vice president, fleet operations, at the Seattle Propeller Club’s Maritime Festival Lunch held Tuesday, May 13, 2014, aboard Carnival Miracle, which was docked at Port of Seattle. The cruise line was recognized for its efforts to reduce its global environmental footprint through a series of objectives that greatly reduce consumption of fuel and water, engine emissions and generation of solid waste, along with increasing recycling across its fleet of 15 ships.

U.S. Senators Patty Murray (D-WA) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) yesterday announced that a critical provision they authored to reform the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund (HMTF) and significantly benefit the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma was included in the bipartisan, bicameral deal on the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA) released in the afternoon. As “donor ports,” the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma currently receive just pennies for each dollar they contribute to the HMTF through collected shipping taxes, while other ports around the country disproportionately receive millions more.
