CP Ships Report 3Q Results

CP Ships Ltd. was able to report a 37% increase in net income in the third quarter despite higher costs, due to continuing general improvement in industry conditions. The company said its operating profit in the latest quarter was the highest since it went public in October 2001. Third-quarter net income was $33 million or 36 cents a share, up from $24 million or 27 cents a year earlier. The Thomson First Call mean estimate was for net income of 41 cents in the latest quarter. Quarterly revenue rose 16% to $817 million from $704 million. Operating income was $44 million versus $34 million. It said it expects fourth-quarter operating income to be "broadly in line" with the third quarter.

Seaspan Corp. Announces Delivery of New Vessel

Seaspan Corporation announced the delivery of its 17th contracted vessel, the Lahore Express. The 4250 TEU vessel, which was built by Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., was delivered approximately nine weeks ahead of its contractual delivery date. The Lahore Express is the fifth of nine Seaspan vessels to be chartered to CP USA, a subsidiary of CP Ships Ltd.

Seaspan Announces Delivery of New Vessel

Seaspan Corporation announced the delivery of its fourteenth ship, the Dubai Express. The 4250 TEU vessel, which was built by Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., was delivered approximately ten weeks ahead of its contractual delivery date. The Dubai Express is the second of nine Seaspan vessels to be chartered to CP USA, a subsidiary of CP Ships Ltd. Seaspan also received notice of expected delivery for the second 4250 TEU vessel to be delivered this year, the Jakarta Express. The containership is scheduled to join the Seaspan fleet on February 21, 2006 and would grow the total fleet to 15 ships, and the number of vessels contracted to CP USA to three.

EU Extends Deadline for TUI's Purchase of CP Ships

The European Commission on Wednesday extended its deadline for ruling on European tourism and shipping firm TUI's plan to acquire CP Ships Ltd. The European Union executive extended the deadline to Oct. 12 from Sept. 28 after remedies were offered. Source: Reuters
