IMUA Honors Three at 83rd Annual Meeting

Grace D. Thomas, Senior Vice President at Great American Insurance Company and a former Chairperson of the Inland Marine Underwriters Association (IMUA), was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the association’s Annual Meeting held mid-May. Ms. Thomas was one of three individuals recognized by the IMUA. The others included Arthur L. Flitner, CPCU, Senior Director of Knowledge Resources at The Institutes – Excellence in Education; and Julie A. Saunders, Inland Marine Business Unit Audit Lead, Travelers – 2012 Outstanding Committee Person.

XL Establishes Inland Marine Field Ops

To put its marine insurance experience closer to their clients, agents and brokers, the Marine insurance unit at XL Group plc (NYSE: XL) announced additional underwriting appointments further establishing its inland marine field operation. XL’s new Inland Marine Field team includes Michael Perrotti, Senior Vice President, Marine Field Operations based in Cleveland, Ken Mueller, Regional Vice President in Atlanta, and Ryan Faris, Marine Underwriter in New York. According to Richard DeSimone, President of XL’s US Ocean and Inland Marine unit, “New York, Cleveland and Atlanta are key trading hubs. With these appointments, we’re putting our inland marine underwriting expertise out in our key markets and in closer proximity to our clients.

Inland Marine Underwriters 80th Anniversary

The Inland Marine Underwriters Association (IMUA) will be celebrating its 80th anniversary, during its annual meeting, this May at the Kingsmill Resort & Conference Center in Williamsburg, VA, May 16-19, 2010. Rich Soja, the current IMUA chairman, will kick things off by introducing Sophia Phillips, The Hanover Insurance Group, as the new chair of the IMUA. Ron Thornton, IMUA President & CEO, will be delivering the State of the Association report. Following these presenters will be a full schedule of educational sessions and trade show participation over the course of the meeting. Murphy Joins Integro’s Marine Practice

Integro Insurance Brokers announced that Patrick J. Murphy has joined the firm’s New York office as a Managing Principal in the Marine Practice. He will focus on coverage related to the global transportation and storage of cargo, among his other areas of expertise. Murphy has some 18 years experience in global transit insurance. He joins Integro from Marsh, where he served as a Managing Director and New York Cargo Department Manager. Prior to Marsh, he worked for Johnson & Higgins. Murphy earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Maritime College, State University of New York. He also holds the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Marine Insurance Management (AMIM) professional designations

Crowley’s Menard Promoted to VP of Risk Management

William Pennella, vice chairman and executive vice president of Crowley Maritime Corporation, announced today that Dwight Menard has been promoted to vice president of risk management effective Dec. Menard will be responsible for the company’s global insurance program; management of Beacon Insurance Company, Ltd; supporting the risk management and insurance requirements of Crowley’s four business lines; allocation of insurance cost and administration/management of the claim, insurance and contract review/approval processes.
