Jotun Passes IMO PSPC for COT Tests

Jotun reports that it successfully completed testing of coating systems consistent with the new IMO PSPC rules for cargo oil tanks (COT), scheduled to come into force next year. The new IMO PSPC rules for cargo oil tanks (COT) will go into effect January 2013. Focused on maintaining the long-term integrity of tanks, the new standard requires that all coatings used in the tanks must provide long-term protection against the corrosive effects of crude oil. ClassNK Issues Approval for Cargo Oil Tank Coating Testing System

April 5 (Tokyo) - ClassNK announced today that it had provided the world’s first class approval for a coating testing system in line with the IMO’s new performance standard for the protective coatings of crude oil tanks to the Japanese Paint Inspection and Testing Association (JPIA). The approval certifies that JPIA’s new gas chamber corrosion testing system fulfills the testing requirements of the new IMO performance standard, and further certifies that JPIA’s has established effective work processes…

60th PSPC Gap Analysis for Chinese Shipyards

Lloyd’s Register Classification Society (China, [LRCS]) and International Paint have delivered their 60th training course aimed at bringing Chinese shipyards up to speed with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) new Performance Standard for Protective Coatings (PSPC) on commercial ships. The joint initiative, which ultimately promotes safe and sustainable shipping, has in its first two years re-enforced the reputations of the entities of the Lloyd’s Register Group as the first to provide timely technical advice to industries in the energy and transportation supply chains. New Corrosion Protection System from GL

Germanischer Lloyd has issued rules for corrosion protection in crude oil tanks, to increases the service life, reduces maintenance and renders better resale opportunity. This protection system is being documented in a special class notation "Cargo Tank Coating.” "Cargo Tank Coating" defines the coating details, including specification of where to coat how, the surface preparation as well as the surveying process. In the course of the year, the condition of this corrosion protection is checked and reported recurrently. In case of repairs, consultancy is offered, and the necessary works are carried out under the supervision of a GL surveyor.
