Simrad Launches New ECDIS
A new, fully IMO certified Integrated Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) navigation system has been announced today, the Simrad CS68 Integrated ECDIS, designed specifically for the commercial market. The Simrad CS68 Integrated ECDIS system offers direct access to key dedicated navigation capabilities. Installation and customization options are virtually endless, depending on the particular configuration of a vessel. Available in two screen sizes, the CS68 19-inch model has a 5:4 aspect ratio for streamlined retrofitting.
MSG to Provide Simrad ECDIS Training Worldwide
MSG MarineServe GmbH, a maritime training company, will act as the official ECDIS training agent for the Navico Simrad ECDIS systems. The ECDIS training will be provided by MSG and its ‘ECDIS Training Consortium’ (ETC) or by sister company Safebridge GmbH using its innovative, online simulation, E-learning courses. The courses will provide trainees with comprehensive instruction, leading to full certification upon completion, and also allow third party authorities and customers, such as Port State Control, to reference trainee database services.
ECDIS Partners with Simrad to Offer Training
UK-based ECDIS training and consultancy company ECDIS Ltd has signed a new agreement with Simrad to provide flag-state approved training on Simrad's CS68 ECDIS software. The agreement has seen the installation of a Simrad terminal in ECDIS Ltd's e-Navigation Center, as well as the ability to provide mobile generic and type-specific training on Simrad ECDIS software. Designed to withstand the roughest conditions at sea, Simrad's CS68 features a shock-mounted central processing unit and a choice of input devices.
Plecdist: Paperless Navigation with new ECDIS
The CS68 ECDIS from Simrad is based on the newly developed, marine dedicated MC50 computer, designed to provide SOLAS vessels with fully approved (Wheelmark) ECDIS. Simrad has coined the phrase PLECDIST - or Paper Less ECDIS for CS68 – to demonstrate that the system really does enable the ability to travel without paper charts. The fully approved and redundant nature of the CS68 ECDIS means that no paper charts are required on board. Additionally, automatic updates for new charts and corrections means that the latest chart version is always available.
