Taiwan Submarine Project Chief Quits, Ministry Says Plans to Proceed

Taiwan's homegrown submarine programme will remain on track, the defence minister said on Wednesday, after the head of the programme resigned due to what he said were unfair attacks against him and the military.Taiwan, which China views as its own territory, has made the submarine programme a key part of an ambitious project to modernise its armed forces as Beijing stages almost daily military exercises to assert sovereignty claims Taipei rejects.Taiwan unveiled the first of eight new submarines in late September, though it won't enter service until next year.

Taiwan's Home-Grown Submarine to Cost Less

Taiwan's shipbuilder CSBC Corp's chairman Cheng Wen-lon said that a home-grown submarine will cost less than NT$100 billion (US$3.29 billion) to build. According to a report in Taipei Times, chairman of the local shipbuilder commissioned to plan and design the vessel  also said that much depends on the Navy’s demands: Planned crew sizes, mission length and strategic and tactical requirements would all determine the eventual size of the submarine. Nationally developed ships would be crucial to the company’s future operations, Cheng said, pledging to place the company’s best personnel on the program. Eariler, all attempts by Taipei to buy a conventional submarine from other countries have been thwarted by a litany of threats from China.

TS Lines Orders Two Box Ships from CSBC

T.S. Lines has placed an order with Taiwan's CSBC Corp for two containerships with capacities of 1,800 TEUs, with an option for an additional two similar units. The price the Taiwanese carrier paid for the new vessels, which are set for delivery in the second half of 2017, has not been made public. State-owned CSBC’s latest contract with TS Lines follows closely on an order from Evergreen Marine for the construction of five feeder container vessels at a price of $185 million to $195 million in total. Evergreen announced on July 6 that the company has decided to order 10 2,800 TEU containerships at CSBC and Japan's Imabari Shipbuilding. The carrier will order five box ships at CSBC at the price of $36-39 million each, with total expense expected to be around $180-195 million.

Taiwan Naval Fleet Adds Home-Grown Vessel

Taiwanese Navy formally took delivery Friday of a new locally designed supply vessel that it said will help enhance Taiwan's maritime combat capabilities. In a ceremony hosted in the harbor in Kaohsiung, the vessel was formally turned over to the Navy from local shipbuilder CSBC Corp. Defense Minister Yen Ming co-hosted the delivery ceremony. Christened as Panshih the locally made fast combat support ship will be used to transport fuel, ammunition and other supplies to support warships. Currently, the Navy only has one supply vessel in service, the Wuyi, says the Ministry of National Defense. The Navy will now begin training a crew to familiarize it with the craft before formally putting the ship into service. The vessel is designed as an AOE, in accordance with the U.S.

CSBC to Build Two Containerships for Iseaco

Taiwan's CSBC Corp. inked a deal to build two 1,800 teu containerships for Iseaco Holdings of Singapore. The ships were reportedly ordered at a price of $25 million each.    Delivery is expectedfor Iseaco’s YL Singapore Shipping and YL Colombo Shipping during the first quarter of 2016.   Current shipbuilding projects underway at CSBC are twelve 1,800 teu vessels for SITC International, four 8,000 teu vessels for Evergreen and two 4,600 teu vessels for Yang Ming.

Evergreen Line's latest three L-type vessels, numbers 12, 13 and 14 in the series have been named 'Ever Legend', 'Ever Learned' and 'Ever Legion'. The christening ceremony was officiated by S.S. ABS, CSBC Corp., Sign Agreement

Partnership will pioneer technical developments for marine, offshore industries. ABS signed a strategic cooperation agreement with CSBC Corp., Taiwan (CSBC)  to support CSBC in vessel and offshore asset construction. The agreement creates an opportunity to form joint development projects in such areas as design optimization, energy efficiency management and design and fabrication of offshore support vessels, bulk carriers, oil tankers, ice-classed vessels and floating production units, and positions ABS as the preferred classification society for CSBC. “Our organizations share the same commitment to the marine and offshore markets,” says Rick Pride, ABS Greater China Division President and COO.
