Second Converted Self-unloader Delivered to CSL Americas

Canadian shipping company the CSL Group said it has taken delivery of CSL Kajika, the second of two converted 77,250 DWT gravity fed self-unloading ships at COSCO Nantong shipyard, on October 22, 2021.The vessel will operate in the CSL Americas fleet as part of the CSL International Pool, where it will join sister-ship CSL Koasek, which was delivered on August 30, 2021, and is trading on the North American West Coast since late September this year.Both CSL Kajika and CSL Koasek were previously Kamsarmax bulk carriers that are being into modern, gravity-fed self-unloaders.

Algoma Expands Ocean Self-Unloader Pool

The provider of marine transportation services,  Algoma Shipping Ltd announced that the acquisition of the interest held by Oldendorff Carriers in the CSL International Pool including the three vessels owned by Oldendorff operating in the Pool has been finalised.As a result of the transaction, Algoma’s interest in the Pool has increased to approximately 40%, said the subsidiary of Algoma Central Corporation.The handy-sized Algoma Verity (formerly the Alice Oldendorff) and the panamax sized Algoma Valour and Algoma Victory (formerly the Harmen Oldendorff and the Sophie Oldendorff, respectively) bring Algoma’s ocean going self-unloader…

Oldendorff Sells Three Vessels in in CSL Pool to Algoma

The dry bulk operator Oldendorff Carriers sold the three remaining self-unloaders still operating in the CSL Pool for US$100.5 million to Algoma Central Corporation.CSL International Pool is a partnership between Oldendorff Carriers, Marbulk Shipping Inc. and Algoma Shipping Inc.The vessels -Sophie Oldendorff (70,037 tdw built 2000), Harmen Oldendorff (66,188 tdw built 2005) & Alice Oldendorff (50,259 tdw built 2000) -  are expected to deliver to Algoma around the middle of 2019.All three vessels have been trading in the CSL Pool on the East Coast of North and South America since they were built. New Self Unloading Ship Calls at Port of Redwood City

New bulk ship CSL Tecumseh made its maiden voyage to the Port of Redwood City on Wednesday, May 29. Named after a respected war chief of the Shawnee Indians in the early 1800s, Tecumseh brought 40,000 tons of construction aggregates from the Orca Quarry in British Columbia. The material was delivered to Cemex Aggregates, a major port tenant. This is an essential material for ready-mix concrete plants from Santa Rosa to San Jose. The Baie St. Paul, Canada Steamship Lines’ first of four new Trillium Class self-unloading Lakers – and  the most technologically advanced ship to enter the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway bulk shipping market – set sail today on her maiden voyage from Chengxi shipyard in Jiangyin, China to Montreal, Quebec. “Every first voyage of a new ship is an exciting event, but with the Baie St. Paul, the occasion is truly historic as CSL prepares to welcome the most modern vessel in the Great Lakes,” remarked Louis Martel, President of Canada Steamship Lines.

CSL Bulkers to Receive Thordon Bearings

Nine CSL Newbuilds Eliminate oil usage with seawater lubricated propeller shaft bearings. The drive for pollution free ships continues as Canadian-based ship owners, CSL Group Inc., eliminate oil from the stern tube and equip nine of their latest new builds with seawater lubricated propeller shaft bearings. CSL has specified non-metallic propeller shaft bearings that use seawater rather than oil to lubricate the shafts on the Trillium Class vessels built at Chengxi Shipyard and Yangfan Shipyard in China.

National Maritime Day Dinner, AMVER Awards

On May 23rd at the National Press Club in Washington DC, the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA)  and IHS Fairplay will be hosting a dinner to commemorate National Maritime Day, which is held on May 22nd to honor merchant mariners. At this dinner, the 2010 AMVER (Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue System) Award recipients will receive recognition for their service from Congressman Frank LoBiondo, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, and Coast Guard Commandant Robert Papp. The evening begins at 6:00PM with a reception. The genesis of the Amver system ultimately finds its roots in the RMS TITANIC disaster in 1912.

Deltamarin Wins Contract for SUL Bulk Carrier

Deltamarin has signed an agreement with Chengxi Shipyard Co., LTD about the design of a SUL (Self Unloading) Panamax Bulk Carrier to be built for CSL International Inc. Deltamarin will take care of the basic and detail design of the vessel as well as the procurement support. The vessel is a derivative of Deltamarin’s revolutionary B.delta standard bulker designs with improved cubic capacity and markedly lower fuel consumption compared to competing designs. The ship concept for this new generation of SUL bulk carriers has been created by Deltamarin for CSL International previously. The good cooperation between the ship owner and Deltamarin resulted in many improvements to current designs of SUL bulk carriers.

The CSL Group Installs Veson

Veson Nautical, a US-based developer of software solutions for the commercial maritime community, announced that installation of its IMOS Chartering Module has been completed for The CSL Group of companies. “We researched offerings from all the major vendors in this market and selected Veson Nautical to replace some of our ‘homegrown’ tools for a number of reasons,” explained Kevin Johnston, Director of Information Technology for the CSL Group. “Veson was very responsive to our needs, developing a custom interface that easily incorporated their solution into our existing systems as well as developing other required customizations. CSL and Upper Lakes Group Sign Letter of Intent

Sam Hayes, President of The CSL Group Inc. (CSL) and Jack Leitch, Chairman of Upper Lakes Group Inc. (ULS) have announced the signing of a Letter of Intent concerning the purchase by CSL of ULS' 50 percent share of Marbulk Canada Inc. (MCI). MCI is owned jointly by ULS and Algoma Central Corporation (Algoma). Marbulk Shipping Inc. of Salem, Mass., a subsidiary of MCI, operates a fleet of eight self-unloading bulk carriers in international trades on the east coast of North America and in South America, Europe and Asia.
