CSM Signs Agreement with Oceanly

Columbia Shipmanagement has agreed to install Oceanly Performance solution on board of its ships."Oceanly is a perfect fit for the services that Columbia wants to provide to its customers. The software will allow our technical managers to have a very intimate control of all technical aspects of our managed vessels, while at the same time ensuring complete compliance on all the emission and reporting regulations" says Mark O'Neil, Columbia Group CEO, who was visiting Norshipping and passed by Oceanly’s stand to seal the deal with the company Managing Director, Giampiero Soncini.

Austal Delivers First Evolved Cape-class Patrol Boat to Australian Navy

Australian shipbuilding group Austal announced it has delivered the first of six Evolved Cape-class Patrol Boats (ECCPB’s) to the Royal Australian Navy.The 58-meter aluminum monohull patrol boat, ADV Cape Otway, is the first of six to be delivered to the Royal Australian Navy under a A$324 million contract awarded to Austal Australia in May 2020. Stowage Deficiencies Caused YM Efficiency Containers Loss -Report

Deficiencies in the cargo stowage arrangement ultimately caused the YM Efficiency to lose 81 containers while sailing in heavy seas off Australia in June 2018, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau's (ATSB) investigation revealed.The Liberian-flagged vessel was en route from Taiwan to Sydney when it suddenly rolled heavily in strong gale force winds and rough seas, causing the ship to lose 81 containers overboard and another 62 containers to be damaged. Contship Italia Sells Gioia Tauro

Contship Italia SpA has sold its 50 percent share in the southern Italian port of Gioia Tauro, which includes the Medcenter Container Terminal (MCT).A press release said: "Contship, a fully controlled subsidiary of Terminal Investment Ltd (TIL) have executed a share purchase agreement concerning the sale of 50% of CSM Italia Gate S.p.A., the company which owns 100% of MCT."MCT is the concessionaire of the container terminal activities in the port of Gioia Tauro and TIL already owned 50% of CSM Italia Gate S.p.A.The parties involved are not disclosing terms. Regulatory approvals are still pending.At closing, TIL will own 100% of CSM Italia Gate S.p.A. and will indirectly control all the shares of MCT.Contship Italia S.p.A.

Tarbit Shipping, Martech Systems Pact to Implement SERTICA

Swedish tanker company Tarbit Shipping has signed a deal with Martech Systems to manage data structuring and implementation of the SERTICA software package from Logimatic on two ships under construction at a shipyard in Turkey. Earlier this year, Logimatic secured Martech Systems as an implementation partner for SERTICA. Martech Systems offers services such as data structuring, data implementation, data collecting and data entry, and crew training for SERTICA. Martech Systems will complete an implementation of SERTICA on the two ships being built at a shipyard in Turkey. Hans Chr. Siemens Acquires CD-adapco for $970m

Siemens and CD-adapco have entered into a stock purchase agreement for the acquisition of CD-adapco by Siemens. The purchase price is $970 million. CD-adapco is a global engineering simulation company with software solutions covering a wide range of engineering disciplines including Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Solid Mechanics (CSM), heat transfer, particle dynamics, reactant flow, electrochemistry, acoustics and rheology. Last fiscal year, CD-adapco had over 900 employees and revenue of close to $200 million with software-typical double digit margins.

GDC’s New Dredger Launched in The Netherlands

The naming and launch ceremony of the trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Jun Yang 1 took place on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Royal IHC’s shipyard in Kinderdijk, The Netherlands. The dredger is being built for CCCC Guangzhou Dredging Co., Ltd (GDC), and the ceremony was performed by Li Wen Ci, the wife of H.E. The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in The Netherlands. IHC noted it has a long-standing relationship with GDC, and both companies cooperated closely in the design of the dredger.

Marine Rebound Strengthens RINA Results

International engineering, testing, certification and classification group RINA has reported improved results for 2013. Its performance was strengthened by an upturn in marine activities and a drive to improve efficiency and drive down costs. RINA turnover for 2013 increased 4% to €294 million, while EBITDA was up 6% to €37.2 million. RINA: Energy, Marine Propel Growth

International testing, inspection, certification and consulting engineering group RINA reports it has grown strongly during 2014, propelled by an upturn in marine, acquisition in the energy sector and international diversification. Turnover for 2014 grew 13 percent to Euro 333 million. EBITDA (adjusted) grew to Euro 37.7 million. Ugo Salerno, Chairman and CEO of RINA S.p.A., said, “2014 was an important year for RINA. Shipping Firms to Pay $10.4 Million in Pollution Penalties

Two shipping firms based in Germany and Cyprus were sentenced today in federal court in Newark, N.J., to pay a $10.4 million penalty for felony obstruction of justice charges and violating the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships related to the deliberate concealment of vessel pollution from four ships that visited ports in New Jersey, Delaware and Northern California, the U.S. Attorney’s Offices in New Jersey and Delaware, the U.S. Department of Justice Environment and Natural Resources Division and the U.S. Coast Guard announced. Russia Claims Ownership of the Arctic and North Pole

Russia, led by President Vladimir Putin, has re-submitted its petition to the United Nations claiming exclusive control over 1.2 million square kms (463,000 square miles) of the Arctic sea shelf, based this time on what its foreign ministry calls “ample scientific data”, reports CSM and Reuters. Seismic Specialists TGS: Revenue Up, New Survey Contracts

Norway-based TGS, report record high late sales in the fourth quarter of 2013, and inform of four new multi-client surveys: a 3D survey in offshore Northwest Australia, two 2D surveys offshore Madagascar and a 3D survey onshore Alberta, Canada. Based on preliminary reporting from operating units, TGS management expects net revenues for the fourth quarter of 2013 to be approximately USD 270 million, bringing total estimated net revenues for 2013 to approximately USD 882 million.
