The installation on what is reported to be the world’s largest offshore converter station is being hailed by China Classification Society (CCS) as ‘a significant milestone’ in the development of deep-water wind power. CCS provided authentication and survey services for the China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) Rudong offshore converter station, which is also an Asian first.CCS says the facility effectively addresses the challenges of large capacity and long-distance power transmission presented by offshore wind farms.

Danish shipowner Esvagt said Thursday its newbuilt offshore wind service vessel Esvagt Alba was set to start its contract in the UK with wind turbine maker Vestas.The Esvagt Alba service operations vessel, delivered last week by Havyard, will be the base for the operation and maintenance of the Moray East offshore wind farm off the coast of Scotland. The newbuilt SOV, ’Esvagt Alba’, arrived Thursday in Fraserburgh, Scotland, for final Marine Surveys before starting work in the offshore windfarm Moray East.The offshore wind farm is being developed by Moray Offshore Windfarm East Ltd (MOWEL)…

Norwegian offshore vessel firm Island Offshore said Tuesday it had won a vessel contract at the Moray East offshore wind farm in the UK.With its Island Crown vessel, Island Offshore is providing the wind farm operator MOWEL with Walk-to-Work services.The Island Crown has already started the project for Moray East, operating out of Peterhead, north-east in Scotland.The vessel is used to accommodate and transfer technicians and equipment for work on the windfarm’s three offshore substation platforms."These operations are scheduled to last until the last part of June 2021, with potential extensions into July 2021," Island Offshore said in a social media post.Built in 2013, 96.8 meters long Island Crown can accommodate 100 crew members aboard.

Belgian offshore installation contractor DEME Offshore has completed the installation of offshore wind turbine jackets for the 950 MW Moray East offshore wind farm in Scotland.The offshore wind farm is being developed by Moray Offshore Windfarm East Ltd (MOWEL), which is a joint venture company owned by Ocean Winds ( 56.6%) Diamond Green Limited (33.4%) and CTG (10%).DEME Offshore was awarded the full EPCI scope for 100 wind turbine foundations plus three offshore substation platform foundations in December 2018.

Stolt-Nielsen has via Stolt Tankers B.V. agreed to buy five chemical tankers from Chemical Transportation Group (CTG) for trading in the Stolt Tankers Joint Service, in a move to modernize its fleet.The five ships, which are 26,000 dwt and with stainless steel cargo sections, were built in China in 2016 and 2017. The purchase of each ship isexpected to close between December 2020 and February 2021. Further terms of the transaction were not disclosed.Stolt Tankers President, Lucas Vos, said: "This acquisition is an excellent opportunity for Stolt Tankers to replace ships being retired in the next few years, lowering our fleet age profile with competitively priced ships that can trade in any of our deep-sea lanes.

The giant offshore wind farm (OWF) project in the Moray Firth, off Scotland has finished pin piling work for 100 turbines and three substations at the site.The 950MW Moray East offshore wind development confirmed it has installed 309 pin piles using the jack-up installation Apollo vessel which worked out of Cromarty Firth Ports Authority’s onshore handling facilities at Invergordon.Work to install the pin piles in the sea-bed commenced in May 2019, it noted in a press release.Project Director for Moray East, Marcel Sunier said: “The important first phase of offshore installation works have been completed safely and successfully without any major incidents.

Navig8 Chemical Tankers, an international shipping company focused on the transportation of chemicals,  has agreed to enter four of its 25,000-dwt chemical tankers into a pool operated by the Norwegian tanker owner and operator Odfjell.Following the delivery of the vessels, the 'Chempool25' will total 19 vessels with Odfjell contributing with ten vessels, CTG five vessels and N8CTI four vessels. Odfjell will continue to be the operator of all vessels in the pool.“We are pleased to welcome N8CTI as a partner. A Sea Sentry wash water monitoring system for ship exhaust gas cleaning systems from maritime sensors manufacturer Chelsea Technologies Group (CTG) has been installed in a Shandong Pure Ocean Technology scrubber, which has been retrofitted to Liberian-flagged bulk carrier BAO Glory, at the Weihai Xinhong shipyard in Weihai, China.The installation represents one of the first scrubber retrofits to be carried out in a Chinese shipyard, a reflection of the industry-wide acceleration in the global scrubber market…

Oil producer Saudi Aramco has selected Chelsea Technologies Group (CTG), designer and manufacturer of sensors for the maritime sector, to provide benchmark testing for compliance with ballast water standards. This follows Saudi Aramco’s announcement that all ships calling at its ports and terminals will be required to provide ballast water samples, in order to demonstrate compliance with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Ballast Water Management Convention (BWM Convention).

Odfjell SE informs it has signed a final agreement to acquire five chemical tanker newbuilds from Chemical Transportation Group, Inc (CTG) and form a pool of 15 chemical tankers. The transaction has been signed and completed, Odfjell said, after it announced on June 16 that it inked a term sheet with CTG to form the vessel pool and acquire CTG’s final five 25,000 dwt stainless steel newbuilds on order from Chinese shipyard AVIC Dingheng. Odfjell said it will pay $40 million per vessel upon delivery from shipyard.

Odfjell SE informs it has signed a term sheet with Chemical Transportation Group, Inc (CTG) whereby Odfjell will acquire the last five of a total newbuilding order of 10 25,000 dwt vessels with 24 stainless steel tanks from Chinese ship builder AVIC Dingheng. CTG will continue to own five vessels which will be placed in a pool commercially managed by Odfjell Tankers AS. The vessels will, together with Odfjell's current fleet of five 25,000 dwt vessels and the five vessels acquired by Odfjell, form a pool for 15 25,000 dwt chemical tankers. The vessels acquired by Odfjell will be bought at $40 million per vessel upon delivery from yard, and are scheduled for delivery from June 2017 through May 2018.

Chittagong-based ship-breakers imported 42 large-sized recyclable ships in February and March this year at a cost of US$ 45 million, according to Jasim Khan's news report in the Financial Express. Industry sources said the ships will be able to supply about one million tonnes of MS rod -- a major construction material -- against the annual national demand for four million tonnes. The government earlier suspended import of recyclable ships for about a year to reduce related accidental and environmental hazards. Later on, it introduced new rules for ship breaking, and formed a Ship Breaking Cell at the Ministry of Industries to implement the rules.

Chelsea Technologies Group (CTG) is pleased to announce delivery of a new SeaSoar Towed Undulating system to the CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas), Barcelona for their new vessel, RV Sarmiento de Gamboa. This SeaSoar has been fitted with a Seabird Electronics SBE911 CTD, with dual CT heads fitted externally on either side of the SeaSoar body. The SeaSoar will provide the CSIC with the capability to gather oceanographic data from near surface to depths of 500 metres whilst underway at speeds up to 12 knots.

Rear Adm. Garry E. Hall relieved Royal Navy Commodore Nick Lambert as commander of Combined Task Force (CTF) 158 and Capt. Paul Severs relieved Royal Navy Capt. Bob Sanguinetti as commander of Combined Task Group (CTG) 158.1 on July 17 aboard Ocean 6, an afloat forward operating barge in the north Persian Gulf. Command of CTF 158 typically rotates among coalition partners Australia, United Kingdom, and the United States. CTF 158 is comprised of coalition ships and its primary mission in the Gulf is maintaining security in and around both the Al Basrah and Khawr Al Amaya Oil Terminals -- ABOT and KAAOT, respectively -- in support of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1723.

Eimskip-CTG in Norway, has received its third newbuilt refeer vessel in 18 months. The vessel is built at Myklebust Verft AS in Norway. The new reefer vessel is a combined reefer and container vessel. It is 269 x 52.4 ft., with maximum cruising speed of 16 nautical miles per hour, and a deadweight of 2,500 tons. It has substantial loading and discharging capacity, about 200 tons per hour and is able to carry 1,800 pallets and 28, 40-ft. containers on deck. The vessel has side ports, which enables driving pallets directly onboard instead of having to hoist them using a crane.

U.S. Navy and Coast Guard training teams began their portion of the pilot Global Fleet Station (GFS) on May 1, aboard High Speed Vessel Swift (HSV 2), while in port here. Global Fleet Station is designed to validate the GFS concept for the Navy and support U.S. Southern Command objectives for its area of responsibility by enhancing cooperative partnerships with regional maritime services and improving operational readiness for the participating partner nations. Training teams from Navy Expeditionary Combat Command and Expeditionary Training Command in Little Creek, Va., along with U.S. Coast Guard training teams from International Training Division, based in Yorktown, Va., are facilitating three training sessions requested by the nation of Panama.
