ABS Awards AiP to SHI LNG Re-liquefaction System

ABS has announced that it has awarded approval in principle (AiP) to Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for its innovative X-Reli LNG Boil Off Gas Expander – part of SHI’s Expansion Re-Liquefaction System.According to the statement from the South Korean shipbuilder the X-Reli system is optimized for low and medium pressure application, which SHI says offers increased efficiency and reliability over existing high-pressure re-liquefaction systems.“Re-liquefaction is a useful capability for owners and operators, offering increased flexibility and the potential to maximize cargo delivery. ABS Grants AIP for the World’s Largest Ethane/Ethylene Carrier

ABS has granted Approval in Principle (AIP) to Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME) for its 165,000 CBM Jumbo Ethane/Ethylene Carrier design.Under this design, the IMO Type B cargo tanks would be constructed out of High Manganese Austenitic Steel (Hi-MN Steel), which DSME says is more cost competitive than Ni alloy steel as well as providing increased reliability and a more robust containment.ABS has reviewed the safety, suitability and feasibility of the…

AET Sign Up for ShipServ TradeNet Services

ShipServ, a leading marine and offshore e-marketplace, has been contracted by tankship operators AET to provide  procurement software services for its fleet operations. AET will connect to ShipServ through its current ABS Enterprise system software suite. The global company’s procurement activities are based in Singapore and responsible for around 60 in-house managed vessels including VLCCs, Suezmax and Aframax tankers. “We are delighted to welcome such a major tanker owner-operator to the ShipServ community. ABS Elects Tony Nassif as Executive Vice President

ABS Forms Greater China Operating Division

ABS announced a major organizational change with the creation of a fifth operating division that will be responsible for the society’s activities in The People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong SAR and Taiwan. The reorganization takes effect 15 October. The Divisional Headquarters will be located in Shanghai where ABS already maintains a large engineering, survey and administrative office. Adam Moilanen has been appointed President of the new ABS Greater China Division. The existing China, Hong Kong and Taiwan senior management teams remain in place and will form the nucleus of the new divisional executive team. ABS Restructures Engineering Organization

Effective 1 May, ABS will introduce changes to its global engineering organization designed to improve service delivery to clients and reinforce technical capabilities. The new organizational structure is similar to the approach the society has used to administer its global survey services in recent years and is intended to provide better administration of its ship and offshore engineering services, more technical support to the engineering staff conducting plan reviews and promote greater technical consistency. The key component of this new organizational structure is the creation of Assistant Chief Engineer (ACE) positions within each operating Division, reporting directly to the ABS Chief Engineer Robert Giuffra in the corporate headquarters in Houston.
