Inmarsat, a provider of global mobile satellite communications services, today announced that SatComms Australia, a provider of mobile and fixed satellite solutions, has been appointed as a Gold Service Provider. An Inmarsat service provider since 2005, SatComms provides services primarily to the maritime sector and, in recent years, has extended its business to Land and Aviationusers as well. To achieve Gold accreditation within the Inmarsat partnership networks, service providers must have detailed and intricate knowledge of Inmarsat’s network and service offerings while offering superior, round-the-clock customer care to end-users. SatComms Australia can now display the Gold Service Provider mark on their customer communications and will enjoy increased access to Inmarsat resources.

Veson Nautical, the US-based developer of software solutions for the commercial maritime community, announced the addition of four professionals to the company’s Boston headquarters office. Veson Nautical has hired Haorong Li as Director of Professional Services; Mikhail Elkin as Software Engineer; Suchit Patel as QA Engineer; and Brenna Venkatesh as Marketing and Events Associate. Shipboard monitoring, sensing and control systems are in a transitional phase in 2002. Many of the newest vessels being launched today are using traditional monitoring systems with large alarm panels using banks of warning lights hard wired to 64 or more critical points on the vessel. These systems give warning if the system being monitoring falls or rises outside of the set point. "The problem is this method of monitoring doesn't give us the parameters the operator needs to diagnose the problem," said Jack Rowley, general manager of Engine Monitor, Inc., (EMI) St. Rose, La., a leading manufacturer of electronic ship monitoring equipment.
