Fire Stricken Tanker Towed to New York

A 479-foot asphalt tanker was towed into New York Harbor after an engine room fire left the vessel disabled off the U.S. East Coast.Early on October 5, U.S. Coast Guard watchstanders in Woods Hole, Mass. received a report that the Hong Kong-flagged tanker Feng Huang AO loaded with asphalt and bound for New York Harbor suffered a fire in its engine room while transiting 57 miles southeast of Nantucket Island.The flames were extinguished using the ship’s installed carbon dioxide fire suppression system.

Four Rescued from Fishing Vessel Blaze off US East Coast

A fishing vessel went up in flames about 65 miles off the coast of of Chatham, Mass. on August 23, 2018.The four fisherman aboard the 23-meter Rose Marie at the time of the fire were rescued by the crews of three nearby fishing vessels.A U.S. Coast Guard HC-144 Ocean Sentry air crew from Air Station Cape Cod and the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Legare, 270-foot Medium Endurance Cutter also diverted to evaluate the scene.The cause of the incident is under investigation.

USCG Rescues Disabled Fishing Vessel

A fishing crew is back on land today after a fouled anchor line stranded them about 115 miles east of Gloucester, Massachusetts, Saturday. Initially, the four-person crew aboard the 61-foot fishing vessel Angela Michelle contacted the Sector Boston Command Center when their line became wrapped in the ship's rudder and propeller. Rescue crews from the Coast Guard Cutter Legare, a 270-foot Medium Endurance Cutter from Portsmouth, Virginia, arrived on scene and took the vessel in tow toward Gloucester, Massachusetts. They were met Sunday at about 9 a.m by a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Station Gloucester who relieved tow and took the Angela Michelle into port. They arrived safely at the pier in Gloucester at about 1 p.m.

The crew of  the Coast Guard Cutter 'Legare' returned to their homeport of Portsmouth Monday following an 8-week patrol in the Caribbean Sea in support of the Joint Interagency Task Force South. While patrolling near Puerto Rico in early August, the Legare crew launched their embarked helicopter to locate a go-fast vessel. When the vessel refused to stop as directed by the helicopter crew, they used approved tactics, including disabling fire, to compel the vessel to stop. Cutter Legare Returns From African Deployment

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Legare home ported in Portsmouth will return here Friday following a 108-day deployment to the Gulf of Guinea region of West Africa. The Legare crew deployed to Africa in support of U.S. Naval Forces Europe and U.S. Sixth Fleet's long-term strategy to improve maritime security and safety throughout the west coast of Africa. Cutter Conducts Historic Port Visit in Liberia

The Portsmouth-based Coast Guard Cutter Legare completed a historic five-day port visit in Liberia Feb. 19. With a recent end to Liberia's long civil war, Legare became the first U.S. military ship to moor in Monrovia in more than 17 years. As part of Commander, Naval Forces Europe-Africa's strategy to improve maritime security and safety in the Gulf of Guinea, Legare is part of a unique naval task group comprised of USS Kauffman (FFG 59) and elements of the Destroyer Squadron 60 staff that is currently deployed off the coast of West Africa to strengthen regional maritime partnerships. Cutter Returns from Caribbean Patrol

The 270-ft. Coast Guard Cutter Legare, home ported in Portsmouth, returned Sunday from a 37-day Caribbean patrol where crewmembers conducted counter narcotic operations, alien interdiction, and participated in naval exercises. The primary mission of of the Legare's crew was to patrol drug smuggling transit routes between the United States and South America. While in the Caribbean Sea, the Legare conducted helicopter airborne use-of-force training which enabled the crew to conduct numerous helicopter patrols resulting in the identification of potential drug smuggling vessels. In addition, the Legare interdicted 15 Cuban migrants off the Coast of Cuba stranded at sea for 10 days without food and water.

Hampton Roads Cutter Returns Home

Coast Guard Cutter Legare is scheduled to return home today following a 44-day patrol covering the Chesapeake Bay and the Florida Straits. During the heightened state of readiness surrounding the anniversary of Sept. 11th, Legare spent more than 370 hours protecting the approaches to Chesapeake Bay. Legare queried more than 180 merchant vessels and boarded eight vessels inbound for Baltimore and Hampton Roads, ensuring only authorized vessels were allowed access to inland water. Legare’s vigilance during these security operations was highlighted Sept. 24th, when Legare conducted a port security boarding of the motor vessel Atlantic Lady. Members of the boarding team discovered excessive amounts of fuel and oil in the bilges and the vessel’s oil-water separator wasn’t working properly.
