Implementation of ECA Measures at Shenzhen Port

The local authorities at Shenzhen port within the Pearl River Delta have now formally announced that vessels will be required to use fuel oil with a sulphur content not exceeding 0.5% m/m, or equivalent emission reduction measures from 1 October 2016. Standard Club says it is as part of implementation of Emission control area (ECA) measures. This requirement extends to the ports of Yantian, Shekou, Chiwan, Mawan and Dachan Bay. Where equivalent measures are to be used, except when using shore power or Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), prior permission will need to be obtained from the Shenzhen Maritime Safety Administration and the Human Settlements and Environment Commission of Shenzhen Municipality.

G6 Alliance Announces Port Rotations

Members of the G6 Alliance  released details on port rotations for the proposed service expansion to the Asia-North America West Coast and Trans-Atlantic trade lanes, announced in early December last year. Subject to the completion of regulatory review process, the 17 services are scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2014. “The G6 Alliance monitors market developments closely and is continuously seeking opportunities to improve our service offerings,” member carriers said in a statement. “With the introduction of the Asia – North America West Coast and Trans-Atlantic services, the G6 Alliance will further strengthen its position to meet shippers’ demand for more comprehensive, seamless and efficient services with competitive transit times.

Maersk Line’s 3rd Hamburg, Far East Service

On 12 February 2010, the container ship Maersk Sydney called at the Port of Hamburg for the first time as part of the Maersk Line’s expanded AE-10 scheduled liner service. This liner service links the ports of Shenzhen (Dachan Bay), Ningbo, Shanghai, Kaohsiung, Shenzhen (Yantian), Hong Kong and Tanjung Pelepas with continental Europe. A recent addition is the inclusion of Hamburg as a port of call for the AE-10 service. The service also calls the Baltic Sea ports of Arhus, Gothenburg and Gdansk.

MOL Offers Direct Service, Vietnam to USWC

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) has announced plans to offer direct service from Vietnam to the US West Coast. The company’s Pacific Southwest Express (PSX) service will begin calling on Cai Mep in South Vietnam effective June 4, 2009. The MOL operated PSX service will call at Tan Cang Cai Mep Terminal, located approximately 50 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, in the province of Ba Ria Vung Tau. The PSX service will provide comprehensive coverage of the Pacific Southwest with calls at the ports of Los Angeles and Oakland.
