Valmet will upgrade the Damatic XDi automation system to a Valmet DNA system onboard the Mariner of the Seas cruise ship owned by Royal Caribbean International. With this upgrade, the operators of the machinery and air conditioning systems will have a modern and efficient Valmet DNA user interface, including a state-of-the-art history storage and data analyzing and reporting tools. The order was included in Valmet's fourth quarter 2017 orders received. Valmet's delivery will take place in April 2018 and will be completed in late June 2018.

The Star Cruises of Malaysia has chosen Metso to refurbish the automation system on its MS Star Pisces cruise ship that sails in the Far East. The vessel's new automation will increase reliability and customer comfort. After docking in Hong Kong in February, the vessel will continue its cruise program from March 2013 onwards. Metso will supply its state-of-the-art Metso DNA system to replace the present Damatic Classic automation system that it had supplied earlier. Ship automation systems from Metso have a long history.

Metso has received an order for a Metso DNA automation system to a fisheries research vessel. The Fisheries Research Vessel is contracted at STX Finland Oy, Rauma shipyard, by the Namibian Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources. The vessel is 65m long with a beam of 14m. It is designed with special care about laboratory equipment, propulsion and power generating systems. High serviceability and low maintenance costs has got special attention. The vessel's task will include monitoring of fish stock, as well as sorting, processing, freezing and storage of fish.

Metso has been awarded major automation system contracts for 3 advanced vessels to be built in Finland. One contract is for 2 Multifunctional Icebreaking Supply Vessels (MIBSV) by Arctech Helsinki Shipyard Oy for Russian Sovcomflot. The second is a Multipurpose Deck Cargo Carrier by STX Finland Oy for Finnish Gaiamare Ltd. belonging to Turku based Meriaura Group. The MIBSV’s are designated for the Sakhalin-1 Arkutun-Dagi gas field and will be used as supply vessels for the Exxon Neftegas Ltd gas platform. They are designed for the harsh environmental conditions in the Sakhalin area with drifting ice and temperatures down to minus 35°C.

Three new shallow-draught 49,000-dwt tankers ordered by AHL Shipping of San Antonio, Texas for subsequent long-term charter to Shell Trading (US) in 2009-2010 are to be equipped with SAM Electronics’ navigation, communication and propulsion systems as part of a single-source vendor contract obtained by parent organisation, L-3 Communications of New York. Associate L-3 companies, L-3 of Westwood, Oklahoma and Valmarine of Norway are also to supply equipment, with Valmarine due to deliver its Damatic DNA series of integrated automation systems (IAS). The IAS covers complete control and monitoring of machinery systems. Power management is also integrated to the IAS while a mode change system enhances safe and easy transition between two sailing modes.

Cunard’s new Fincantieri-built 90,000gt cruiseliner, Queen Victoria, due to be named in Southampton by the Duchess of Cornwall accompanied by the Prince of Wales in December, has been fitted with a SAM Electronics’ NACOS 65-5 integrated navigation command system featuring a radar-controlled trackpilot, Ecdis and other state-of-the-art sensors. Designed to DNV NAUT AW and LR IBS standards and also featuring particularly high levels of system redundancy, the complete assembly functionally integrates radar, ECDIS and autopilot operations.

CAE's marine controls division has won contracts worth around C$5 million to supply its automation systems for installation on a number of commercial ships, two French naval ships and a U.K. Royal Navy research/support vessel. For the French navy, CAE Valmarine will build integrated safety management systems (ISMS) for French shipyard Direction des Constructions Navales (DCN), which will install the equipment on the two Mistral-class landing helicopter docks (LHD), being built to commercial standards. The first vessel (Mistral) is to be fitted in March 2005. Installation on the Tonnerre is to be completed in December 2005. CAE has already supplied the integrated automation system and emergency shutdown system for the two vessels.

CAE's marine division has signed contracts with a number of commercial marine customers around the world for a total value of more than $12.5M. In the largest of the contracts, CAE has been selected by Croatia's Brodosplit Shipyard to supply both CAE Damatic(TM) automation systems as well as an integrated navigation system with voyage data recorders and bridge consoles for six P-MAX tankers contracted by STENA. CAE Damatic automation systems enable a single crewman to have full control of all shipboard machinery and equipment. They are highly reliable, guaranteeing uninterrupted operations even in the event of system failure.
