Chouest to Build Damen-designed Tug Pair

Damen Shipyards Group has been awarded a contract to design a new offshore terminal tug for Edison Chouest Offshore. Chouest will initially build two ASD Tugs 5016 at its Gulf Ship yard in Gulfport, Miss., for completion by May 2022.Damen said it has designed the 50-meter ASD Tug 5016 to provide escort, hold-back, hose-handling and maintenance duties offshore Guyana. The tug will deliver 120 tons of static bollard pull delivered by twin C-280 engines. It will also have a hybrid system that will be engaged when loitering.

Eight Damen Interceptors for Panama

The National Air and Naval Service of Panama (Servicio Nacional Aeronaval - SENAN) has taken delivery of four Interceptor 1102 vessels from Damen Shipyards Group. The President of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, performed the christening ceremonies of all four vessels on February 6, 2017. Coinciding with the vessel handover, SENAN also signed a second contract with Damen for an additional batch of four Interceptors. Both contracts include a comprehensive after-sales package that consists of training, spare parts and maintenance.

Jamaica Orders Two Offshore Patrol Vessels

The Jamaica Defense Force (JDF) has awarded Damen Shipyards Group a contract for two new Stan Patrol 4207 vessels. Because the shipbuilder had both vessels available on stock, delivery is expected within the coming months. Damen said it is currently completing minor modifications before the outfitting process is concluded. On completion, two teams of JDF representatives will fly to the Netherlands to sail both vessels back to Jamaica with Damen’s own expedition team. Depending on weather conditions…

Damen PSV for Wilson Sons Ultratug Offshore

Wilson Sons Ultratug Offshore, a joint venture between Wilson Sons and the Chilean maritime services provider Ultramar, has taken delivery of a Damen PSV 5000. The vessel was built at Wilson Sons shipyard in Guaruja,Brazil. The delivery is the first of a two-vessel contract, with the second vessel due for completion later in 2016. “For this vessel, and the one still under construction, we provided the full engineering package in addition to certain key materials,” says Damen Sales Manager Americas Rutger Dolk. At 85.25 metres long, with a 19-metre beam, this Damen PSV 5000 is to be known as Larus. Allowing for optimal use of the 920m2 deck area, the vessel is equipped with a travelling gantry crane along the work deck to allow optimal storage and movement of deck cargo.

First Damen Tug for Peru

Launching the business relationship between the two companies, Ian Taylor Peru has signed a contract with Damen Shipyards Group for an ASD Tug 2810. The vessel’s MTU engine and rapid delivery time were both key aspects of the contract. The two companies are also concluding negotiations for an additional order of a second identical vessel. Ian Taylor Peru, the Peruvian subsidiary of the Chilean group of companies Empresas Taylor, has been active in Peru’s towing sector since 1991. The company currently has four tugs in operation there. Looking to expand the fleet within a short timescale, the company turned to Damen: “We wanted the vessel this year and fortunately Damen had one which could be ready in June,” says Empresas Taylor Chief Legal Officer Jack Howard.

First Damen Crane Barge to head to Uruguay

Damen Shipyard Group’s new transshipment Crane Barge (CBa) 6324 has got off to a strong start, with an order for the first unit from a client in Uruguay. The barge features the proven Liebherr CBG 350 crane as standard and on this occasion has been outfitted with a unique mooring spread from Vryhof Anchors and Damen Anchor & Chain Factory (AKF). The fast delivery time for the CBa 6324 is the result of the characteristic Damen approach of customising  built-for-stock products to clients’requirements. The standardised 63 x 23.5 metre crane barge is available globally and designed to operate reliably almost anywhere in the world. It has the versatility to handle either dry bulk cargo or containers and can be outfitted with a self-propulsion system.

Ecuador Coastguard Orders Damen Patrol Boats

Damen announced it has recently signed a contract with AstillerosNavalesEcuatorianos (Astinave) to construct two Damen Stan Patrols (Spa) 5009 for the Ecuadorian Coastguard. The Ecuadorian shipyard will build both vessels locally with Damen Technical Cooperation, which is Damen’s method of ‘building on site’. Damen Technical Cooperation (DTC) will supply Astinave with prefabricated kits to build both vessels. As well as the numerous advantages that local construction brings to the contract-signing table…

CMM Takes Delivery of Damen PSV for Brazil

New supplier CMM Gravity to start on long-term contract with Petrobras. CMM has taken delivery of a Damen Platform Supply Vessel 3300. The 80-meter, 3,300t deadweight vessel CMM Gravity will be deployed in the Brazilian waters from June 2014 on a 4+4 year contract with Petrobras. For CMM (Compagnie Maritime Monégasque S.A.M.), the vessel will mark a further step in its ambitious plans to expand in the offshore space and expand its offering by developing its capabilities as an OSV operator. It is the yard’s seventh delivery of Damen’s new mid-size PSV 3300 design.

Damen Shipyards Group Adapts Swiftly to New Argentinian Import Regulations

Damen Shipyards, which has already built up a considerable presence in Argentina since the nineties, is working very closely with Argentinian shipyards and looking forward to expanding its activities in the country. Currently, several Damen ASD tugs are being built in Argentina and very soon work will begin on an entirely new powerful pusher to serve the Hidrovía Paraná-Paraguay, the greatest waterway of South America. Between 1994 and 1999, Damen delivered more than 40 of its well-known AluCats to the Prefectura Naval Argentina, as well as several Stan Tenders.

First Damen Fast Crew Supplier Built in Ecuador

For the first time, a Damen Fast Crew Supplier 1605 will be built in Ecuador by Astilleros Navales Ecuatorianos (ASTINAVE) Shipyard. Damen is supplying the complete, prefabricated Shipbuilding Material Package Kit to ASTINAVE. The yard’s technical staff  are responsible for the construction, together with Damen Technical Cooperation (DTC). The DTC concept enables customers to build Damen vessels of their choice locally, according to specific requirements. The Fast Crew Supplier will be delivered to Petro Ecuador in September this year.

Damen Delivers First Argentinian-Owned Tug

First Argentinian-owned Damen ASD 2810 tug arrives in Buenos Aires. Argentinian towage and harbour company Remolcadores Unidos Argentinos (RUA) has just taken delivery of the ‘RUA Cap. Lucio R’, a Damen ASD 2810 tug. Although Damen’s tugs have operated in Argentina before, this vessel is the first time a Damen tug is owned by an Argentinian company. Established in 1967 and based in Buenos Aires, RUA has a seven-strong fleet of vessels with a smaller bollard pull than the ASD 2810 newbuild.
