Damen Delivers Dredge Packages to Mexico

Earlier this year Damen Shipyards received the order for four complete dredge packages to be installed in trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHDs) currently under construction in Mexico for SEMAR. The identical TSHDs will be fitted out with dredge packages including the trailing pipe, a dredge pump, and various hopper loading and discharging equipment.At present, the four hopper dredgers are under construction at three different Mexican yards. MOL Group Enters CTV Business with Charter Deal for Ishikari Bay New Port Wind Farm

Japan's Mitsui O.S.K. Line has concluded a time charter contract with Shimizu Corporation for two crew transfer vessels (CTV) for an offshore wind farm at Ishikari Bay New Port. "This marks the MOL Groupā€™s first entry into the CTV business. In addition, one of the CTVs, The KAZEHAYA, owned by MOL, is the first CTV in Japan managed and operated under International Safety Management (ISM) Code, which is the international standard of ship safety management system, certified by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK )," MOL said.MOL Group company MOL Coastal Shipping, Ltd.

Damen Marine Services' New Multi Cat Vessel is a "Swiss Army Knife of workboats"

Damen Shipyards' division Damen Marine Services has taken delivery of the first of a new class of Damen Multi Cat, a Multi Cat 3313 SD named DMS Snipe. Damen Marine Services, which offers Damen vessels for charter, both fully crewed and bareboat, has described the DMS Snipe as a "Swiss Army Knife of workboats""While Damenā€™s Multi Cat range is known for its shallow draught capabilities, this new class can draw less than two meters, an exceptional achievement for a 33-metre vessel," Damen said."The Multi Cat 3313 SD continues the Multi Cat ethos of being the Swiss Army Knife of workboats.

Svitzer Adds Three Newbuilds in the Americas

A.P. Moller-Maersk's towage arm Svitzer announced it will take delivery of two new ASD tugboats and one workboat in the Americas region.Based in Panama, Svitzer Americas provides harbor and terminal towage as its main market segments. With the three newbuilds, its fleet will reach 82 vessels operating in ports and terminals across 12 different countries in the Americas.Arjen van Dijk, Managing Director Svitzer Americas said, ā€œI look forward to welcoming Svitzer Abaco, Svitzer Isabela and Svitzer Moín to the Svitzer Americas fleet.

Echandia Names Hellström as New CEO

Maritime battery and fuel-cell systems company Echandia said it has appointed Fredrik Hellström as itsnew CEO.Hellström joined Echandia as Deputy CEO in 2021. He has more than 10 yearsā€™ experience from leadership in naval design and large-scale project management, and he holds a PhD in Fluid Mechanics and a MSc in Naval Architecture.ā€œI feel honored to be appointed as CEO of the company Magnus Eriksson founded and successfully led for many years. ABS Grants AiP for Damen's Fast Crew Supplier for U.S. Offshore Wind

Maritime classification society ABS has granted its Approval in Principle for Damen Shipyard's Fast Crew Supplier 2710 crew transfer vessel aimed for deployment in the U.S. offshore wind industry.To achieve approval, Damen has modified the design of its standard FCS 2710 to meet the US requirements. Waterjets are now incorporated, driven by engines that are compliant with US Environmental Protection Agency regulations. According to Damen, the FCS 2710, over 65ft in length, is suited for operating conditions on the US Atlantic coast.

Alewijnse to Equip Diamond Mining Ship

Alewijnse reports it has been awarded a contract to perform the complete electrical installation on board what will be the worldā€™s newest and largest offshore diamond recovery vessel. Designated an additional mining vessel (AMV) by its owner De Beers Marine Namibia (Pty) Ltd, the ship will be the seventh member of the fleet of operator Debmarine Namibia.Alewijnse said it is once again working with the Damen Shipyards Group, this time at Damen Shipyard Mangalia in Romania. The first steel was cut for the vessel in May 2019 and now Alewijnse is preparing to start work on board.

Concordia Damen Wins Ship of the Year

Inland shipping vessel Sendo Liner, built by Concordia Damen shipyard in Netherlands, has won the KNVTS Ship of the Year 2019 Maritime Award.The award jury highlighted the vesselā€™s ā€˜future-proofā€™ propulsion configuration (diesel-electric supplemented with a battery pack) as a crucial factor in selecting the Sendo Liner as winner. The award was presented at the 2019 Maritime Awards Gala.The Sendo Liner is an inland shipping container ship with dimensions 110 x 11.45 x 3.2 m (LxWxT). JR Shipping Adds 2 Container Feeder Ships

Netherlands' short sea shipping firm JR Shipping has expanded its container feeder fleet by purchasing a vessel and entering into a new management contract.According to a press note from the Harlingen-based shipowner and manager, the two vessels were transferred to the shipping company. They will be registered under the flag of Madeira and sail under the names MV Expert and MV Energy. Confeeder Shipping & Chartering is responsible for the commercial management.The new management contract concerns MV Expert. CEMEX Dredge Pump e-Motor Passes Test

The Marine Aggregate Dredger CEMEX Go Innovation, currently under construction for CEMEX Marine UK, is fitted out with a submersed dredge pump. This dredge pump is directly driven by an electric motor ā€“ and not an arbitrary one.As a first, the dredge pump drive is a permanent magnet 1,400 kW unit, that last week it underwent a large array of tests ā€“ passing them all effortlessly.The hopper dredger is designed for mining marine aggregates at -55 m below sea level. The submersed Damen dredge pump is directly driven by a continuous electric motor ā€“ that is, without a gear box in between.Moreover, the electric motor forms an integral part of the trailing pipe structure. But the story does not end there: the air filled e-motor is of the Permanent Magnet type.

Fully-electric Schottel Propelled Vessels to Operate in Canada

SCHOTTEL has signed a contract with Damen Shipyards to equip the first fully-electric vessels to operate in Canada.The new Amherst Island and Wolfe Island ferries will be propelled by four SCHOTTEL Twin Propellers STP 260 FP, each with an input power of up to 550 kW. The main propulsion is provided by batteries with a diesel engine as backup to ensure mobility. Damen Shipyards Galati has delivered over 1,300 vessels during proud history! On 15th August, Galati yard held a party for the annual celebration of Ziua Navalistului ā€“ Shipbuilderā€™s Day.This year the party was larger than usual as it incorporated a celebration of 100 years since Romanian unification and Damen Shipyard Galatiā€™s 125th anniversary.In total around 7,000 people attended the event, including employees and former employees of the yard and their families, Galati city officials, clients and the media.Speaking at the celebration, the mayor of Galati, IonuÅ£ Pucheanu, said, ā€œWhen I think of the Shipyard in GalaÅ£i, I think of professionalism and tradition. Damen Lays Keel for 77-meter Expedition Yacht

On July 27 DAMEN SeaXplorer marked a milestone in the construction of the SeaXplorer 77 expedition yacht at a keel laying ceremony at Damen Shipyards Galati on the banks of the Danube. The owner attended the ceremony and welded the traditional coin on the keel. Following the hull building phase, the 77-meter luxury expedition yacht (253 ft) will arrive at Damenā€™s Vlissingen East yard in the Netherlands for completion and on-schedule delivery in Q4 2020.The SeaXplorer 77 is a customized design from the DAMEN SeaXplorer range.

Damen ASD 2913 Tug Launched in Saqr Port UAE

The new ASD Tug 2913 for Saqr Port, part of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Ports, has been launched at the Albwardy Damen shipyard in Sharjah, UAE. Ordered twelve months ago, the tug will join the RAK Ports tug fleet and operate in the new and impressive deep-water bulk terminal currently nearing completion at the port. There its 80-tonnes of bollard pull will provide additional power for manoeuvring Capesize vessels. The tug was launched in the presence of Capt. Cliff Brand, the Chief Executive Officer of RAK Ports, and Capt. Michael Magee, the Harbour Master of RAK Ports. Capt Brand highlighted in his speech the importance for the UAE economy to build ā€œin the UAE for the UAEā€ and the added value of having the building yard around the corner for support during the life time of the vessel. First Class Approved 3D Printed Shipā€™s Propeller Unveiled

The worldā€™s first Class approved 3D printed shipā€™s propeller, the WAAMpeller, has been unveiled following rigorous testing verified by Bureau Veritas at Damen Shipyard Groupā€™s headquarters in the Netherlands. The groundbreaking propeller is the result of collaboration between RAMLAB, Promarin, Autodesk, Bureau Veritas and Damen, who started pooling collective resources and knowledge to develop the worldā€™s first 3D printed shipā€™s propeller seven months ago. Promarin provided the design of the triple-blade propeller.
