Keel Laid for Nigerian Navy Landing Craft

Dutch shipbuilding giant Damen Group said that its Damen Shipyards Sharjah (DSS) in the United Arab Emirates held a keel-laying ceremony for a new landing craft (LST 100) ordered by the Nigerian Navy.A press release from Damen said on February 17, 2020 said that the ceremony took place in the Sahrjah Hamriyah Free Zone on December 9, 2019.The start of the vessel’s construction was attended by Nigeria’s Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas.Damen has designed the Landing Ship Transport 100 (LST 100) for a range of duties including amphibious operations, strategic transport of equipment and troops, disaster relief, evacuation…

Damen Begins New Tug Build for Saqr Ports

A keel-laying ceremony was held on August 28 at Damen Shipyards Sharjah for a new ASD Tug 2913 for Saqr Ports, part of Rash Al Khaimah (RAK) Ports. Damen will deliver the vessel to RAK Ports next year, in time for the opening of a new bulk terminal at Saqr Port, the main bulk-handling port in the Middle East. Two New Tugs for Rimorchiatori Riuniti

Italian tug operator Rimorchiatori Riuniti has continued its fleet expansion with the deliveries of two new Damen tugs; an ASD 2913 called Danimarca and an ASD 2411 called Columbia. The delivery of the Danimarca took place in Genoa on June 14, 2017. This new tug will join the ASD 2913 Germania that joined the company’s fleet at the beginning of the year. Like her sister vessel, the Danimarca has also been installed with FiFi 1 and an aft winch, in addition to oil recovery and escort capabilities.

Saqr Port Orders Damen ASD Tug

Saqr Port, part of Rash Al Khaimah (RAK) Ports, has signed a contract with the Damen Shipyards Group for the delivery of an ASD 2913 tug. The vessel will be built a short distance away at Albwardy Damen in Sharjah and will be delivered in time for the opening of the new bulk terminal at Saqr Port in mid-2018. Saqr Port is a major bulk-handing port in the Middle East and a vital part of the regional economy. Located at the foot of the Hajar Mountains, it serves the fast-growing quarry industry in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.

UAE Shipyard Begins Operations as Albwardy Damen

Albwardy Marine Engineering and Damen Shipyards Sharjah have officially brought both brands together under one umbrella. Under the new name, Albwardy Damen, the United Arab Emirates-based shipyard will continue to construct newbuild steel and aluminum vessels as well as provide the same ship repair services to its marine and oil and gas customers in the Middle East. Albwardy Marine Engineering was founded in 1978 and has been a joint venture with Damen Shipyards Group since 2008. In 2014 the official opening of Damen Shipyards Sharjah took place.

Damen Bags Jack-up Pontoon Contract

Damen Shipyards Sharjah (DSS) in the United Arab Emirates has won a contract to build a shallow draught, self-propelled Jack-up Pontoon 3526 for the UAE-based contractor Aqua Diving Services Ltd. Once delivered, it will be used primarily to deliver offshore support services, including the provision of accommodation facilities for personnel as well as operating as a work platform with crane facilities. Aqua Diving Services (ADS) has specifically designed the Jack-up for Middle East operations and is closely cooperating with Damen Shipyards Sharjah for the construction of the unit. The jack-up, which will be named the Aqua Rise III and will have accommodation for up to 128 personnel with a 350m² of deck space and two cranes, rated at 75 and 15 tonnes respectively.

First Damen Tug for Bugsier

Bugsier, the German towage and maritime service provider, has boosted its already extensive fleet with the addition of a Damen ASD 2411 tug. The tug represents the first purchase of a Damen vessel for Bugsier. Bugsier holds an established position in the German maritime sector: the company is celebrating its 150-year anniversary this year. This operational knowledge brought mutual benefits to the vessel construction process. “Damen is experienced in building tugs, and we are very experienced in operating them,” comments Bugsier Business Development Manager Sven Schrӧder. The Bugsier 22 was built at Damen Shipyards Sharjah (DSSh) in the United Arab Emirates.

Damen Delivers Shoalbuster 2609 for SAFEEN

SAFEEN, the subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Ports formerly known as Abu Dhabi Marine Services, has taken delivery of a Damen Shoalbuster 2609 named Maqtaa to join its existing fleet. The delivery comes just two months after the order was placed by SAFEEN. Like all the vessels in Damen’s Shoalbuster range, the new vessel is a multipurpose, shallow draught workboat capable of undertaking a range of roles including towing, mooring, pushing, anchor handling, dredge support, supplying and other support activities. Maqtaa’s primary role is providing towage and berthing assistance in the Emirate.

Damen Sharjah wins Best Yard Award

On 29 May at the presentation ceremony for the International Maritime Awards, held at the two-day Shiptek 2016 conference in Dubai, Damen Shipyards Sharjah (DSSh) received the prize for Best New Building Yard. The trophy was accepted at the ceremony by DSSh managing director Lars Seistrup. DSSh is a joint venture between the Damen Shipyards Group and Albwardy Investment, bringing Damen quality and skills to the UAE. The new yard has the facilities to repair and construct all type of vessels, and has recently delivered tugs, workboats, support vessels, dredgers, landing craft, floating docks, barges and pontoons, to operators in and around the Arabian Gulf.

Good Year for Damen Shipyards Sharjah

Damen Shipyards Sharjah (DSS) was officially opened in January 2014. Now, two years later, the yard celebrates its anniversary with a total of 13 vessels being dry-docked simultaneously. The vessels include pilot boats, landing craft, OSVs, as well as a cable-laying vessel. DSS has had success since its opening in both the newbuild and conversion markets, as well as the repair sector. In 2015 DSS we delivered eight newbuilds, carried out two complex conversions and dry-docked 165 vessels from all the major operators in the region. Damen Crane Barge and Anti-Pollution Barge Delivered

Damen Shipyards Sharjah has delivered two barges, a Crane Barge 4920 and an Anti-Pollution Barge 2405, to BINCO, a contractor in the Middle East with over 30 years of experience and active in various sectors such as Marine, Pipeline and Oil Tanks, Light and Heavy Vehicle Contracting and Industrial Services. The contract marks another milestone in the established relationship between BINCO and Damen and aims to strengthen services towards Saudi Arabian Chevron, Khafji Joint Operations and other business partners. Having previously acquired two Damen Stan Tugs 1605 and one Damen Stan Tug 3509, BINCO’s choice to return to Damen was a combination of the wide range of products on offer as well as Damen’s capacity as a complete package supplier in the region.

Damen ASD Tug for Sharjah Ports

Sharjah Ports Authority, has taken delivery of a Damen ASD Tug 2411, named Al Luolo’ Aya. His Excellency Sheikh Khaled bin Abdullah bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Seaports and Customs at the Hamriyah Free Zone Authority and Sharjah Airport International Free Zone presided over the ceremony, which was held at Damen Shipyards Sharjah. Also present were Mahamed Meer Abdelrehman Al-Sarrah, Director of Seaports and Customs, Saud Salim Al Mazrouei, Director of Hamriyah Free Zone Authority and Sharjah Airport International Free Zone, Lars Seistrup, Managing Director of Damen Shipyards Sharjah. First Damen Twin Axe Workboat for Middle East

Damen Shipyards Group has delivered a Damen Fast Crew Supplier (FCS) 2610 workboat, named AOS SWIFT for the Atlantic Maritime Group on 20 August 2015. This is the first Damen Twin Axe vessel to be used in the Middle East for safe passenger and crew transfer as well as for the transport of industrial persons, materials and equipment to unmanned offshore platforms in the Strait of Hormuz. Within less than 3 months, and this includes the vessel’s transportation from Damen Shipyards Gorinchem, Damen has customised, commissioned and delivered the stock vessel. Damen signed the contract with Atlantic Maritime Group, in the United Arab Emirates, on 1 June 2015. The vessel is going to be chartered to a Norwegian oil and gas company  for its platform operations Offshore Oman.

IRSHAD Acquires Damen Shoalbuster 2308

Abu Dhabi Petroleum Ports Operating Company (IRSHAD), a part of the ADNOC Group of Companies, has taken delivery of a Damen Shoalbuster 2308, named Al Marfa 1. During a ceremony at Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld, the Netherlands, the company received the new vessel 3 weeks ahead of schedule. The delivery was attended by Zeid Zakaria, Senior Vice President, IRSHAD, Khalfan Ali Al Ali, Ship Building Projects Manager, IRSHAD, Pascal Slingerland, Damen Sales Manager Middle East, Jos van Woerkum, Director Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld and Peter Baars, Product Director Damen Shipyards IRSHAD will put the vessel to use maintaining single point buoy moorings. The close contact she will have with the buoys has necessitated Damen outfitting the vessel with a range of explosion-proof equipment.

Bugsier's First Order with Damen

First Damen Multi Cat 3013 Delivered to MCS

Maritime Craft Services (Clyde) Ltd has taken delivery of its first Damen Multi Cat 3013. Based in Fairlie, Ayrshire, the Scottish company is one of the largest operators of Damen vessels in the world, with 14 in its fleet. This order also represents an important milestone for Damen as it is the first vessel to be built at Damen Shipyards Sharjah, which opened in 2014. Managing Director of Maritime Craft Services, Menno Kuyt, comments: “This latest vessel fills a gap in our fleet, we were looking for a larger vessel, particularly with more crane capacity for dredging support work and Damen can make this happen very quickly!” MCS ordered the Damen Multi Cat 3013, now named MCS ELLY II on April 28 and it was delivered on May 27, less than a month later.

Patrol Boat Delivered to Mohamed Saqr Alfalahi

A new 20-meter aluminum patrol vessel, AD Comet, has been delivered to Mohamed Saqr Alfalahi General Maintenance to replace the company’s current vessel, undertaking general and patrol duties in the Abu Dhabi waters. Damen Building 2 Vessels for Sharjah Ports

Sharjah Ports Authority and Damen Shipyards officially celebrated the keel laying of two new vessels on December 11 at Damen Shipyards Sharjah, the Dutch group’s new facility. Mohammed Meer Al Sarrah, Director of the Department of Seaports and Customs at the Hamriyah Free Zone Authority and Sharjah Airport International Free Zone presided over the ceremony. A long-term Damen customer, the United Arab Emirates port and customs authority already has eight Damen Stan Tugs in its fleet.

The Gulf Set to Rival China's Ship Repair Capacity

“The Middle East is a world-class centre of excellence for ship repair with a number of well respected shipyards already offering a diverse range of services. Rolls-Royce Ship Lifts to Middle East Yards

Rolls-Royce won contracts to supply Syncrolift ship lifts to two shipyards in the Middle East. One order, from Damen Shipyards Sharjah FZE (DSS) will see a Syncrolift designed and installed at Hamriyah Free Zone shipyard at Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates. Seacontractors has expanded its workboat fleet with three new orders at Damen Shipyards Group, including the maritime services provider’s ninth vessel from the Shoalbuster range, a Damen Shoalbuster 3209. In addition, Seacontractors’ order for two Stan Tugs makes it the launching customer for the new 70-tonne bollard pull STu 3011 design.
