Damen Delivers Two New Vessels to RAK Ports

Damen Shipyards Group has delivered two vessels to RAK Ports in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The deliveries took place on December 5th at the Ras Al Khaimah Cruise Terminal. Damen Sells Two ASD Tugs to Ecuador

Dutch shipbuilding giant Damen Shipyards Group said that it has  sold two Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) Tugs to Ecuador-based DLEN S.A.According to the operator of 36 shipbuilding and repair yards, the vessels will give tug assistance during bunkering operations to Corpetrolsa’s fleet of tankers, a subsidiary of DLEN, as well as other vessels entering the ports of Esmeraldas and La Libertad.The new two-vessel order follows hot on the heels of last year’s delivery of three Damen Stan Tugs to the DLEN. Damen ASD 2913 Tug Launched in Saqr Port UAE

The new ASD Tug 2913 for Saqr Port, part of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Ports, has been launched at the Albwardy Damen shipyard in Sharjah, UAE. Ordered twelve months ago, the tug will join the RAK Ports tug fleet and operate in the new and impressive deep-water bulk terminal currently nearing completion at the port. There its 80-tonnes of bollard pull will provide additional power for manoeuvring Capesize vessels. The tug was launched in the presence of Capt. Cliff Brand, the Chief Executive Officer of RAK Ports, and Capt. Michael Magee, the Harbour Master of RAK Ports. Capt Brand highlighted in his speech the importance for the UAE economy to build “in the UAE for the UAE” and the added value of having the building yard around the corner for support during the life time of the vessel. Workboats: Three Damen Stan Tugs for Corpetrolsa Group

Damen Shipyards Group signed a contract with Corpetrolsa Group of Guayaquil, Ecuador, for the supply of three tugs; one Stan Tug 1205 and two Stan Tugs 1606. The tugs will be operated by Corpetrolsa subsidiary DLEN S.A. to support its bunkering operation. Corpetrolsa Group operates its own fleet of tankers in the 2,000 to 7,000 DWT range and the three new tugs will be used to assist them in the Ecuadorean ports of Esmeraldas and La Libertad. The vessels were already in stock at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem and will be supplied in their standard format without modifications.

Best Workboats of 2017

Marine News showcases the best of North America’s 2017 workboat deliveries. There is something for everyone. Notwithstanding the lingering offshore energy downturn, there were plenty of bright spots for North American shipyards in 2017. If a hull was delivered in 2017, we took a look at it, with several areas as a focus for inclusion into this edition. For starters, it is always exciting when a domestic yard delivers a vessel – or multiple vessels, for that matter – to foreign buyers. We can compete in a foreign arena; on price, quality and on-time delivery. This year was no different. No less important is the environmental footprint of a vessel, and there was plenty to report on from that angle in the past 12 months. The domestic waterfront is indeed getting greener and cleaner.

Saqr Port Orders Damen ASD Tug

Saqr Port, part of Rash Al Khaimah (RAK) Ports, has signed a contract with the Damen Shipyards Group for the delivery of an ASD 2913 tug. The vessel will be built a short distance away at Albwardy Damen in Sharjah and will be delivered in time for the opening of the new bulk terminal at Saqr Port in mid-2018. Saqr Port is a major bulk-handing port in the Middle East and a vital part of the regional economy. Located at the foot of the Hajar Mountains, it serves the fast-growing quarry industry in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.

Great Lakes Shipyard Lays Keel for 10 Damen Tugs

A keel-laying ceremony was held on August 10 at Great Lakes Shipyard in Cleveland, Ohio for 10 Damen Stan Tugs 1907 ICE. The new Ice Class vessels will be the first tugs to be designed and built to comply with the new Subchapter M Coast Guard regulations, and will be operated by the shipyard’s affiliate company, The Great Lakes Towing Company, replacing existing tonnage. Damen’s Houston-based manager for North America, Jan van Hogerwou, confirmed that under the license, Great Lakes Shipyard will receive full construction, design and engineering support from Damen.

SAAM Orders Two Damen ASD Tugs

SAAM S.A. has placed orders with the Damen Shipyards Group for two ASD Tugs 2411. SAAM is based in Chile from where it offers towage, logistics and port services in South, Central and North America. With a fleet of nearly 200 vessels it is the largest such operator in the region. At 24-metres in length the ASD 2411 is a compact yet powerful vessel with a maximum bollard pull of 70 tonnes and can be found in operation all over the world. Sturdily built to a state-of-the art design, they are highly manoeuvrable and exceptionally reliable. Damen and SAAM have known each other for many years.

SA Navy Acquires Damen ATD Tug

On 4 February 2016 the South African Navy took delivery of a second South African-built Damen ATD Tug 2909 at the naval base in Simon’s Town. Escorted by SA Navy's existing six tugs, Inyathi was welcomed into the naval fleet with a traditional sail past. Inyathi – meaning buffalo – is the second Damen ATD Tug 2909 in a two vessel replacement contract awarded to Damen Shipyards Cape Town (DSCT) after a transparent tender process. Fast Crew Supplier for P&O Repasa

P&O Repasa, a new company formed last year by the acquisition of the majority of the shares in Spanish towage firm Repasa by P&O Maritime, has taken delivery of one Damen Fast Crew Supplier 5009. The vessel will be operated from Malabo on Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea. The Red Eagle will ferry personnel and equipment, and supply drinking water and fuel, to offshore rigs and platforms. Damen Crane Barge and Anti-Pollution Barge Delivered

Damen Shipyards Sharjah has delivered two barges, a Crane Barge 4920 and an Anti-Pollution Barge 2405, to BINCO, a contractor in the Middle East with over 30 years of experience and active in various sectors such as Marine, Pipeline and Oil Tanks, Light and Heavy Vehicle Contracting and Industrial Services. The contract marks another milestone in the established relationship between BINCO and Damen and aims to strengthen services towards Saudi Arabian Chevron, Khafji Joint Operations and other business partners. Having previously acquired two Damen Stan Tugs 1605 and one Damen Stan Tug 3509, BINCO’s choice to return to Damen was a combination of the wide range of products on offer as well as Damen’s capacity as a complete package supplier in the region.

Damen ASD Tug for Sharjah Ports

Sharjah Ports Authority, has taken delivery of a Damen ASD Tug 2411, named Al Luolo’ Aya. His Excellency Sheikh Khaled bin Abdullah bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Seaports and Customs at the Hamriyah Free Zone Authority and Sharjah Airport International Free Zone presided over the ceremony, which was held at Damen Shipyards Sharjah. Also present were Mahamed Meer Abdelrehman Al-Sarrah, Director of Seaports and Customs, Saud Salim Al Mazrouei, Director of Hamriyah Free Zone Authority and Sharjah Airport International Free Zone, Lars Seistrup, Managing Director of Damen Shipyards Sharjah. The ASD 2411 Tug is fully ‘built in Sharjah for Sharjah’.

Damen ASD Tug Delivered to Clyde Marine

Clyde Marine Services has taken delivery of its first Damen ASD Tug, the shipbuilder announced today. The Damen ASD 2310 has been named CMS Warrior, and she will join a 12-strong fleet of tugs and crew tenders at the Scottish company. Based in Greenock, Scotland, Clyde Marine Services was established in 1913 and has a long history of working with Damen vessels. The first experience of a Damen vessel was when the marine services company bought a Damen Pushy Cat in the mid-eighties. The fleet includes Damen Stan Tugs 1906 and 1907, as well as two Stan Tug 1s.

IRSHAD Acquires Damen Shoalbuster 2308

Abu Dhabi Petroleum Ports Operating Company (IRSHAD), a part of the ADNOC Group of Companies, has taken delivery of a Damen Shoalbuster 2308, named Al Marfa 1. During a ceremony at Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld, the Netherlands, the company received the new vessel 3 weeks ahead of schedule. The delivery was attended by Zeid Zakaria, Senior Vice President, IRSHAD, Khalfan Ali Al Ali, Ship Building Projects Manager, IRSHAD, Pascal Slingerland, Damen Sales Manager Middle East, Jos van Woerkum, Director Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld and Peter Baars, Product Director Damen Shipyards IRSHAD will put the vessel to use maintaining single point buoy moorings. The close contact she will have with the buoys has necessitated Damen outfitting the vessel with a range of explosion-proof equipment.

Second Damen ATD 2909 Tug for SA Navy

Damen Shipyards Cape Town (DSCT) is currently building a Damen ATD 2909 Tug named Inyathi – Buffalo in English – to be delivered to the South African Navy in January 2016. Now in the production phase, this is the second tug the SA Navy has ordered from DSCT. The first, named Imvubu  - meaning Hippo – was delivered beginning July 2015. These tugs are to replace two existing harbour and coastal tugs, De Neys and De Mist, built in 1969 and 1978 respectively. They will remain in service until the delivery of the second ATD. The new tugs are equipped to safely assist the SA Navy’s current and future fleet of vessels under all-weather, heavy sea, restricted visibility, day and night conditions within the confines of the Southern African ports and in coastal waters.

Damen Building 2 Vessels for Sharjah Ports

Sharjah Ports Authority and Damen Shipyards officially celebrated the keel laying of two new vessels on December 11 at Damen Shipyards Sharjah, the Dutch group’s new facility. Mohammed Meer Al Sarrah, Director of the Department of Seaports and Customs at the Hamriyah Free Zone Authority and Sharjah Airport International Free Zone presided over the ceremony. A long-term Damen customer, the United Arab Emirates port and customs authority already has eight Damen Stan Tugs in its fleet.

Repasa Puts New Stan Tugs to Work

On October 13, Repasa's ASD Tugs assisted the berthing of a LNG tanker with great success. Yesterday the two Damen Stan Tugs 1606, outfitted as line handling boats, sailed to the buoy to receive another tanker for their first mission in Equatorial Guinea. For Repasa, this is a successful start of its new joint venture with P&O Maritime. The Damen Stan Tugs 1606, Red Ant and Red Bee, are the first Damen builds in Repasa’s fleet of workboats which also includes AHT and ASD tugs.

Japdeva Contracts Damen for Pilot Vessel

In April 2014, a contract between JAPDEVA (Costa Rica) and Damen Shipyards Group for a Damen Stan Tender 1504 was approved by the Controller General of the Central-American country. The contract is the conclusion of a thorough tender process that started in 2013. With this contract JAPDEVA, the autonomous government body that manages the ports in Puerto Limon on the Atlantic side of Costa Rica, will expand its fleet of Damen-designed and -built vessels to five ships: the new Damen STe 1504, one other Damen Stan Tender and three Damen Stan Tugs.
