Safety of Livestock Carriers Questioned

The German animal welfare organization Animal Welfare Foundation and the French environmental organization Robin des Bois have published a report on the safety risks associated with livestock carriers trading from the European Union. In addition to wind, offshore wind demands human energy, individuals with knowledge and skills first to build and then operate and maintain the dozens of projects required to meet President Biden’s 2030 goal of 30 GW of offshore generation. Brendan Smith brings more than a decade of maritime experience to his role as president of Seaward Services, a marine services company specializing in the operation, maintenance and repair of government and privately owned vessels. Derecktor Sets World Record for Largest Yacht Haul-out

As yachts continue to increase in size, so does Derecktor Shipyards’ commitment to servicing them, the company said.It was in 2021 when Derecktor again unveiled the world’s largest mobile boat hoist, but this time at its brand-new shipyard at the Port of Fort Pierce. With a 1,500-ton capacity, the massive lift can safely haul boats up to 75 meters in length out of the water for service or refit.Most recently, the 1,500-ton machine at Derecktor Ft. Pierce hauled Coral Ocean, a 73-meter superyacht launched in 1994 by Lürssen.

Team Tankers Forms JV with V.Group

Tanker shipping company Team Tankers International Ltd. said it has formed a joint venture (JV) with ship management specialist V.Group, whereby Team will transfer its in-house managed fleet, consisting of ten MRs and two 25k coated vessels, to the JV, along with its on shore technical organization and seafaring expertise. Team already has 21 ships with V.Group for technical management.Team will own 30% and V.Group 70% of the JV, Dania Ship Management AS Denmark, which will continue to be based in Copenhagen, although additional parties may join in the future.The joint venture start-up date is April 1, 2020.

New Mega-Yacht Repair Center Coming in Florida

St. Lucie County Commissioners approved a 30-year contract with Derecktor Shipyards of Dania Beach to lease land from the county and operate a mega-yacht repair center and refit facility at the Port of Fort Pierce.After a nearly year-long process, the County and Derecktor Shipyards signed a long-term agreement for the development and operation of a megayacht maintenance, repair and refit facility at the Port."The new shipyard will be unique in the U.S. – the first facility designed and built specifically to accommodate power and sailing yachts in the 200 ft. plus range. Until now, these large yachts, particularly sailing vessels which require extreme overhead clearance and considerable water depth, have had few or no shipyard options in this country," said a press release.Derecktor Ft.

Coast Guard, HSI, CBP Interdict Suspected Smuggler, Migrants, and Drugs

The Coast Guard, Homeland Security Investigations and Customs and Border Protection interdicted a sport fisher boat with a suspected smuggler, two migrants, a U.S.-Bahamas dual citizen and 7 kilograms of cocaine Monday approximately eight miles east of Dania Beach.At approximately, 5:25 a.m. Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders received a report from the Coast Guard Cutter Bernard C. Webber (WPC-1101) crew stating that they spotted an unlit 46-foot sport fisher boat approximately eight miles east of Dania Beach.

Autonomous Vessels: FAU Gets $1.25m for Research

Clipper Fleet, Dania Ship Announce Partnership

Dania Ship Management has announced plans to extend ship management capabilities to include dry cargo in a partnership agreement with Clipper Fleet Management, part of the Clipper Group. The partnership, which strengthens the commitment by V.Group, Nordic Tankers and Clipper Group to create a compelling platform for Copenhagen based ship management solutions, will see the transfer of 28 shore-based employees and around 1,000 seafarers to Dania Ship Management. Port Everglades Equipped for SOLAS Weight Verification

Terminal operators at Broward County's Port Everglades say they are already equipped to help shippers handle the new international container weight verification requirements that go into effect on July 1, 2016. Certified scales are available at several locations throughout Port Everglades to use to weigh export containers. Ocean shippers are encouraged to confirm availability and fees with their contracted marine terminal operators for compliance with the new verified gross mass (VGM) requirements. "On-port scales, which have already been certified by the state, should help shippers meet the new requirements without services delays," said Port Everglades Chief Executive & Port Director Steve Cernak.

International Trade Up 6.8% at Port Everglades

Port Everglades is experiencing a surge in international trade with a 11 percent increase in TEUs (20-foot equivalent units, the industry’s standard measurement for container volumes) and a 6.85 percent increase in the dollar value of all waterborne commerce during the first nine months of calendar year 2014 compared to same period in 2013, according Port statistics and a report released today by WorldCity. According to WorldCity’s data, Port Everglades’ trade with the world totaled $20.17 billion through the first nine months of 2014, which includes containerized cargo, petroleum products and bulk cargoes such as cement. Imports rose 16.21 percent, and exports decreased 1.27 percent.

AMO Responds to Cruise Line Industry Criticisms

American Maritime Officers Association (AMO) president follows up on his recent appearance on FOX News Channel. The AMO president says his April 15 live appearance on FOX News Channel's segment, "Remembering Titanic 101 years Ago Today," which highlighted concerns about the rising tide of marine mishaps, has drawn undue criticism from the cruise ship industry's lobbying group, yet, has ignited overwhelming positive public and professional support of putting highly-trained AMO-member U.S. merchant mariners in command of more passenger vacation vessels. A few days after American Maritime Officers President Tom Bethel appeared on "FOX & Friends," the Cruise Lines International Association issued a news release in the form of an open letter from CEO Christine Duffy to Mr. Bethel.

Kongsberg Supplies STAR Center with DP Technology

STAR Center, located in Dania Beach, FL, is launching into the Dynamic Positioning (DP) Training market, expanding its simulation training services to the offshore, cable laying and cruise ship markets in the Gulf of Mexico and beyond. Svitzer Salvage Americas Inc. Signs Florida Warehouse Lease

Netherlands-based maritime services firm Svitzer Salvage Americas Inc. has signed a 22,961-square-foot storage warehouse lease for a strategic operations center in Dania Beach, FL, announced Morris Southeast Group/CORFAC International Principal Ken Morris, SIOR. Morris represented Svitzer Salvage in the five-year lease for two adjacent bays located at Broward International Commerce Center (BICC), 345-349 N. Bryan Road, Building 500 in Dania Beach, FL. The company intends to use the space as a storage warehouse for its salvage operations and occupancy is projected for September 2012. Dania Beach is south of Ft. Lauderdale, north of Hollywood and about 22 miles from Miami.
