Simrad Tech for Sydney Fast Ferries
Four new fast ferries, owned and managed by Manly Ferries and operating in the busy waters of Sydney Harbour, will use Simrad technology for safe navigation. The owner has specified a range of Simrad bridge equipment for its latest vessels, including an NSO Evo2 quad-core marine processor, a 4G broadband radar with beam sharpening and target separation, an Autopilot AP28, and Simrad MO16T widescreen monitors with sunlight viewable screens and multi-touch capability. The four new vessels, two 24-m fast catamarans and two 33-m fast catamarans, will be operating on several busy routes linking Circular Quay in Sydney Harbour with locations including Darling Harbour, North Sydney, Pyrmont Bay and Harbour Beaches.
Australia Maritime Museum Calls ‘Action Stations’
The Australian National Maritime Museum’s new “Action Stations” attraction officially opened in Darling Harbour, Sydney, on Sunday, offering guests a uniquely dynamic “Immersive Cinema Experience”. The $12 million (AUD ) Action Stations attraction, located in a new waterfront pavilion, highlights the history of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and its people, the various periods of engagement from World War I to the present day and brings to life the human stories behind the uniform and the fleet.
Liebherr-Werk Biberach Wins Orders from Australia & New Zealand
Liebherr-Werk Biberach GmbH has managed to win several orders in Australia and New Zealand. During the last few weeks four luffing jib cranes from the HC-L series and a top-slewing crane from the EC-H series have left Liebherr-Werk Biberach GmbH for the voyage down under. Liebherr's exclusive distributor in Australia, Morrow Equipment Co. L.L.C. based in Caringbah, NSW near Sydney, has expanded its crane fleet. Morrow continues to expand its hire fleet with the purchase of two new 542 HC-L 18/36 Litronic cranes and a used 540 HC-L model. The high level of usage of the existing hire fleet, positive signals from the market and several pending large projects in the cities of Sydney and Brisbane were the reasons behind the purchases.
100 Yrs Since Departure of Australian Expeditionary Force from Sydney
On 19 August 1914, an Australian expeditionary force sailed out of Sydney Harbour bound for German New Guinea. The departure was barely 15 days after Britain's declaration of war on Germany. Enlistment of the infantry based Army contingent was completed at Victoria Barracks, Paddington and further preparation and training occurred at the nearby Agricultural Showgrounds. The over 1,000 strong contingent of soldiers would later march down Oxford, College and Macquarie Streets to Fort Macquarie - the current site of the Sydney Opera House - to be ferried to Cockatoo Island. Six companies of Naval Reserve sailors from four states, each of about 50 men were concentrated separately.
International Fleet Review to Welcome Navies of the World
The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) is calling on Sydney’s diverse cultural communities to welcome the thousands of international sailors expected in Sydney in early October for the International Fleet Review. The International Fleet Review will be held in Sydney from 3 to 11 October 2013 to commemorate the centenary of the first entry of the new Royal Australian Navy's Fleet into Sydney Harbour on 4 October 1913. It is expected that over 40 warships and 17 tall ships, representing 20 nations, will be berthed alongside Garden Island, Barangaroo, Darling Harbour and HMAS Waterhen near Waverton for the nine day event. It will be the largest contingent of international ships in the harbour since the 1988 bicentennial celebrations.
