The Addvalue iFleetONE communications terminal and proprietary VMS have been type-approved in four of the five U.S. Fisheries Management regions, as required by the U.S.

With most offshore wells in Brazil located between 30 and 300 km from the coast, communication with offshore assets has not always been straightforward or reliable. Some operators and service providers still use traditional maritime VSAT services for coverage offshore Brazil, yet the introduction of Microwave radio has led to a much better level of quality and reliability in high-bandwidth voice and data communications. Claudio Paschoa, Maritime Reporter’s correspondent in Brazil had an interesting conversation with Arild Fotland, head of Ceragon’s Oil and Gas Division, about the advantages of Microwave radio communications for offshore operations in Brazil. Stratos Global Corporation, global provider of advanced mobile and fixed-site remote communications solutions, has successfully completed an Inmarsat FleetBroadband field trial with Spain’s Albacora Group. The three-month field trial was conducted onboard the Albacora tuna fishing vessel Albatun Dos in the Indian Ocean. Stratos channel partner Satlink managed the installation of a FleetBroadband 250 terminal manufactured by JRC, which was integrated with the vessel’s local-area network. The successful trial led to Albacora Group retaining the FleetBroadband from Stratos system, which it will use to manage the Albatun Dos’ daily operations at sea.

Stratos Global Corporation (Stratos) announced that Furono Electric Co., Ltd. (Furuno) and Japan Radio Co., Ltd. (JRC) and have become shareholders in JSAT Mobil Communications Inc. (JSAT Mobile). Furuno and JRC, both marine electronics manufacturers, will each assume a 10 percent share in JSAT Mobile. Stratos formed the joint venture company JSAT Mobile in August with Sky Perfect JSAT Corporation (Sky Perfect JSAT) to serve the Mobile satellite communications needs of Japanese businesses and government agencies. Stratos is a leading global provider of advanced Mobile and fixed-site remote communications solutions. Sky Perfect JSAT is a leading satellite operator in the Asia-Pacific region.

CapRock has added Subsea 7, a major operator of energy support vessels, to its customer list. The long-term multi-million dollar agreement with Subsea 7 provides for worldwide data and voice communications services on CapRock’s global network. The latest win is a milestone in CapRock’s multi-year plan to expand its presence beyond the Gulf of Mexico, following its customers around the world with turnkey communications. OSLO, Norway and ROCKVILLE, Maryland (October 27, 2003) - Marlink today announced that it has signed a five-year agreement with the owners of the MV Mona Lisa, represented by Kyma Ship Management, Inc. of Miami, Florida, to provide complete satellite communications onboard the vessel. The agreement calls for Marlink, a company within Telenor Satellite Services formed to serve as the preferred interface between maritime customers and the satellite communications industry, to provide Sealink high-speed communications service. Operating at speeds up to 2 Megabits per second, the Sealink solution allows guests and crew to enjoy greater access to the Internet, e-mail, fax services, and telephone service.

Inmarsat Ventures plc., announced the opening of their first U.S.-based operations with an office located in Washington, D.C. Telenor Satellite Services, a subsidiary of Telenor of Norway, announced that it is developing a new broadband communications line of services for the maritime industry enabling seamless global roaming for data and voice communications at sea. OceanRoam will provide vessels worldwide Internet and telephone connectivity around-the-clock using the ships' assigned IP addresses and telephone numbers regardless of location. Telenor's OceanRoam will offer always-on Internet access and IP-based service at a fixed monthly price. The service will enable voice services and unlimited data transfer for ship's business and crew communications and will feature a variety of committed information rate (CIR) service levels up to 128 kbps.

Marlink said that its office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, initiated the sales of 10 maritime broadband communications systems during the first half of 2006. Marlink Dubai’s most recent agreement is a three-year pact with CCC Underwater for a broadband very small aperture terminal (VSAT) system aboard the CCC Pioneer. The vessel is designed for offshore construction including pipe and cable laying and will be operating in waters throughout the Middle East and off the coast of India. The new VSAT system provides communications that will enable the CCC Pioneer to increase operations efficiency while at sea as well as give the crew an effective means of staying in touch with family and friends at home. Installation of the system is scheduled for September.

Shell has extended its current business agreement for global maritime communications via satellite with Marlink. The original agreement for satellite airtime and traffic accounting services, which commenced in April 2001, has been extended into 2004. Marlink provides the Shell fleet of 48 ocean going vessels with data and voice communications via satellite, permitting the ships to communicate with the companies Head Office in London, offshore facilities, and port locations. Marlink also provides Inmarsat Mini-M service aboard the vessels. This service provides for crew calling and e-mails, using a prepaid calling solution sourced through Marlink's preferred suppliers.
