Matson Lowers Fuel Surcharge

Continuing decreases in bunker fuel prices has prompted Matson to drop its fuel-related surcharge by 4 percentage points. Matson announced it will lower its fuel surcharge for service to Hawaii, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and Micronesia, effective Sunday. The decrease takes the surcharge from 35.5 percent to 31.5 percent for its Hawaii service, from to 36 percent to 32 percent for Guam/Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands service and from 41 percent to 37 percent for Micronesia service, the company said. Matson Senior VP Hoppes to Retire

Dave Hoppes, Matson’s senior vice president, ocean services, will retire March 31, 2015, the company announced. John Lauer, currently vice president, Transpacific services at the company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Matson Navigation Company, Inc., will succeed Hoppes as senior vice president, ocean services, effective March 31, 2015. The company also announced that Chris Scott, currently director, Asia at Matson Navigation Company, will succeed Lauer as vice president, Transpacific services at Matson Navigation Company, effective March 31, 2015, as part of the transition plan.

Matson Raises 2015 Westbound Hawaii Box Rates

Matson, Inc., a U.S. carrier in the Pacific, announced that Matson Navigation Company, Inc. (Matson) will raise its rates for the company's Hawaii service by $225 per westbound container and $110 per eastbound container, effective January 4, 2015. The increase will be filed with the Surface Transportation Board. No adjustment will be made to the company's terminal handling charge (THC). Matson estimates that the rate adjustment will result in shipping costs rising by an average of 5.4% percent. "This rate increase will help offset rises in operating costs and support ongoing investments in our Hawaii service," said Dave Hoppes, senior vice president, ocean services.

Matson Raises Guam, Micronesia Rates

Matson, Inc., a U.S. carrier in the Pacific, announced today that Matson Navigation Company, Inc. will raise its rates for the company's Guam/Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI) and Micronesia services by $225 for both westbound and eastbound containers, effective January 25, 2015. The increase will be filed with the Surface Transportation Board and the Federal Maritime Commission. The rate increase also applies to the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, the Republic of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of the Marshall Islands. There will be no adjustment made to the company's terminal handling charge (THC).

More Matson Rates to Increase

Matson, Inc., a U.S. carrier in the Pacific, announced that Matson Navigation Company, Inc. (Matson) will raise its rates for the company's Guam/Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI) and Micronesia services by $275 for both westbound and eastbound containers, effective January 26, 2014. The increase will be filed with the Surface Transportation Board and the Federal Maritime Commission. The rate increase also applies to the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, the Republic of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

Matson Increases Westbound Hawaii Service Rates

Matson, Inc., a U.S. carrier in the Pacific, announced today that Matson Navigation Company, Inc. will raise its rates for the company's Hawaii service by $175 per westbound container and $85 per eastbound container, effective January 5, 2014. The increase will be filed with the Surface Transportation Board. In addition, Matson will raise its terminal handling charge by $50 per westbound container and $25 per eastbound container, also effective January 5, 2014. Matson estimates that the combined increase of both the rate adjustment and terminal handling charge will result in shipping costs rising by an average of 5.5%. Historically, Matson announced average percentage increases based solely on the rate increase, excluding terminal handling charges.

Matson Raises Fuel Surcharge

Last week, due to dramatic increases in fuel prices, Matson Navigation Company, Inc. (Matson) announced that it is raising its fuel surcharge from 6.5 to 7.5 percent in its Hawaii and Guam services effective September 15, 2003. "As anyone who drives a car is well aware, fuel prices have been rising steadily in recent months," said Dave Hoppes, vice president, ocean services. "For transportation companies, the costs are especially significant. Matson burns approximately 1.9 million barrels of fuel annually. For every dollar increase per barrel of bunker fuel, Matson experiences an approximate $1.9 million increase in annual operating costs. We cannot continue to absorb these additional fuel-related operating costs.

Lauer Joins Matson as Director, Transpacific Services

John P. Lauer has joined Matson Navigation Company as director, Transpacific services, for Matson's China - Long Beach Express. Lauer will lead Matson's U.S. sales efforts for its burgeoning China - Long Beach Express service and will focus on trade lane yield management and revenue enhancement strategies in conjunction with other Matson operations. He will report to Dave Hoppes, senior vice president, ocean services. Lauer comes to Matson with 20 years of sales experience, including a number of senior level executive positions encompassing maritime and logistics activities. Most recently, he was managing director, eastern region, for APL and APL Logistics at the NOL Group level. Lauer led these companies in reaching key performance sales and profit benchmarks.

Matson Decreases Fuel Surcharge by One Percentage Point

As a result of recent declines in bunker fuel prices, Matson Navigation Company will lower its fuel surcharge in its Hawaii, Guam/CNMI and Micronesia services by one percentage point, from 19.75 percent to 18.75 percent, effective November 5, 2006. "Bunker fuel prices continue to decrease, allowing us to make this second consecutive reduction to our fuel surcharge," said Dave Hoppes, senior vice president, ocean services. We will continue to monitor fuel costs and adjust the fuel surcharge accordingly. While fuel prices remain volatile, we are hopeful this current trend will continue."

Matson Vessel to Undergo $17m Conversion

Matson Navigation Company, Inc. (Matson) has signed a $17m contract with Atlantic Marine Alabama, LLC to perform work related to the conversion of Matson’s C-9, MV Mokihana, to a combination RoRo and container vessel. Modification work on the 2,800 TEU containership will commence in April 2007 at Atlantic Marine’s shipyard in Alabama, with delivery scheduled for June 2007. “The conversion of the Mokihana will increase Matson’s ro-ro capacity in our Hawaii service by 35 percent,” said Dave Hoppes, senior vice president, ocean services. “It will help further Matson’s objective of providing our auto customers with the two features they prefer: frequency of service and ro-ro capacity.
