Vard Marine Names Carson CEO

Naval architecture and marine engineering firm Vard Marine Inc. announced Thursday that Wade Carson will succeed Dave McMillan as president and CEO upon McMillan's retirement on May 31.Carson has been with Vard for 18 years. For the past six years he has led the business’s strategic direction as VP Business Development and most recently was on assignment as interim Managing Director of affiliate company Vard Electro Canada.Following his 30-year tenure with Vard Marine, McMillan will pursue another chapter in the marine industry as a marketing/business development consultant.Vard Marine…

VARD Signs MOU with ASFAT

Vard Marine (VARD), a naval architecture and marine engineering company, announced that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed with Askeri Fabrika ve Tersane Ä°Ĺźletme A.Ĺž. In September, 2016, an U.S. shipyard and the Canadian design business of an Italian-owned Norwegian shipyard won the largest vessel procurement contract in U.S. Coast Guard history. Vard Holdings Limited said a design developed by its subsidiary Vard Marine was selected for the U.S. Coast Guard’s new Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) program. Eastern Shipbuilding Group and team partners were selected for the detailed design and construction phase for the U.S. Coast Guard’s Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) program. Based in Canada and the US, Vard Marine offers ship design, engineering, and shipbuilding technology services to the marine community in North America and to selected international markets.

St. Lawrence Seaway Cargo Shipments Return

Over 15 million metric tons of cargo moved through the St. Lawrence Seaway during the month of July, down just 4 percent over last year, marking a sustained comeback after the slow start to the shipping season. "The month of July was extremely busy for our ports on the Great Lakes-Seaway System as they handled high value cargoes like steel, wind components, and machinery that arrived from 13 different countries," said Rebecca Spruill, Director of Trade Development for the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation.

Wind Energy Components Bound for Duluth Port

Minnesota Power and the Duluth Port said they will reach a milestone this weekend when the 15th ship bearing wind generation equipment destined for Minnesota Power’s growing renewable energy installation in North Dakota sails into the harbor beneath the Aerial Lift Bridge. The BBC cargo ship, Peter Roenna is expected to arrive in Duluth late Sunday night carrying more than two dozen renewable wind energy components after a voyage from Brande, Denmark, where the equipment is manufactured by Siemens A.G.

Vard Holdings acquires STX Canada Marine Inc

Vard Holdings Limited (“VARD”), one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of offshore and specialized vessels, has acquired STX Canada Marine Inc., a leading marine engineering and design company with more than 30 years history in North America, for approx. NOK 65 million. Headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, with branch offices in Ottawa and Houston and a workforce of over 75 employees, the new acquisition will be fully integrated with Vard Marine Inc. (“Vard Marine”), and operate under the Vard Marine name. The management directed by President Dave McMillan will continue, allowing the new organization to combine the best practices of Norwegian and North American marine engineering and design.
