Tug Safety Training Offered at Port of Milford Haven

A powerful virtual-reality ship simulation system, operated by the Port of Milford Haven is running courses to train tug boat operators from across Britain. The Navigation Suite, based at Milford Waterfront, creates highly realistic computer-generated versions of any port in the world, giving trainees the opportunity to take the controls of any vessel, including tugboats, to practice scenarios. Tug skippers from Williams Marine Services and Teignmouth Harbor Commission spent two days undertaking theory based safety training and working on simulated ‘as real’ scenarios within the port.

Mayeur to Lead CMR Group’s EIM Unit

FTO Services Announces Completion of First Vessel

FTO Services announced today that construction of its new deepwater well intervention services vessel has been completed. The naming ceremony for the new vessel, Island Performer, was held in Ulsteinvik, Norway on June 27. During the event, about 200 guests including executives from FTO Services, Edison Chouest Offshore and FMC Technologies sailed on a five hour maiden voyage to celebrate the naming of the vessel. In the fourth quarter of 2014, FTO Services will begin a 5 year lease of Island Performer from vessel owner, Island Offshore.

GD Bath Ironworks Lays DDG 1001 Keel

General Dynamics Bath Iron Works celebrate the keel laying of 'Michael Monsoor' (DDG 1001), the second ship in the planned 3- ship Zumwalt-class of guided-missile destroyers. The keel unit is the 4,400-ton, heavily outfitted mid-forebody section of the ship, which was moved from the shipyard's Ultra Hall construction facility earlier in the month onto the building ways. Craine To Be Proposed as Interim President at SUNY Maritime College

Vice Admiral John W. Craine Jr. will be proposed as interim president of the State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College next week. Craine recently retired as the Chief of Naval Education and Training for the Navy where he was responsible for all training and education programs across the Navy, including technical and flight training, and Naval ROTC programs. Trustees will vote on this formal appointment Oct. 23, and Craine will take office Oct. 24. Once approved, he will serve through June 2002. SUNY Maritime College is a four-year institution located at historic Fort Schuyler in Throggs Neck, N.Y. of special projects, including international programs and distance learning.
