MacGregor to Equip MBARI's New Research Vessel

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, said it has been taped to deliver a suite of overboard handling systems for the new oceanographic research vessel David Packard owned by Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), a private, nonprofit oceanographic research center based in California. Glosten to Design, Freire Shipyard to Build MBARI's New Research Vessel

The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) is embarking on a new chapter in its ocean research with the construction of a state-of-the-art ship, a vessel named in honor of MBARI’s founder, David Packard. The R/V David Packard will be capable of accommodating diverse expeditions in Monterey Bay and beyond to further the institute’s mission to explore and understand our changing ocean.It will measure 50 x 12.8 m with a 3.7 m draft, designed to  support a crew of 12, plus a science crew of 18.

Marine Fuels: A Better Procurement Process

Web-based Procurement Management Systems Standardize Purchasing Procedures, Increase Transaction Oversight and Streamline Accounting Processes for the U.S. The Defense Energy Support Center (DESC), a field activity of the Defense Logistics Agency and an agency within the U.S. Government Department of Defense, is responsible for the procurement of all energy-related resources in support of the warfighters of the U.S. DESC program management began implementing card programs for the purchase of ground and aviation fuel in the mid-1990s. The success of these programs led to the formal creation of the Government Fuel Card Program Office in 2006. The department’s focus was to implement, manage, and improve fuel procurement services offered by the DESC.

BP Marine Wins US Government Award

BP Marine has collected its third accolade after the innovation of its SEA Card – Ships’ bunkers’ Easy Acquisition Card – solution was recognized by the US Government. Created as a solution to the US Defense Energy Support Center’s (DESC) search for a more efficient marine fuel procurement process, SEA Card played a significant role in the Government Fuel Card Program winning the 2007 David Packard Excellence in Acquisition Award. The Government Fuel Card Program team received the honor for making the acquisition system for air, fleet and sea fuels more efficient, responsive and timely.

T-AKE Team is Candidate for Packard Award

Nominees for the 2001 David Packard Excellence in Acquisition Award include NAVSEA's Lewis and Clark Class (T-AKE) Project Team. The team was one of five Navy candidates recently announced by the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition (ASN RD&A) John Young. The T-AKE Program accounted for two of the nine environmental awards given for FY 2001 by the Secretary of Defense. The David Packard Excellence in Acquisition Award, the Department's highest acquisition award, recognizes DoD civilian and/or military organizations, groups and teams who have made highly significant contributions and demonstrated exemplary innovations in the Defense acquisition process.

Navy Lab Experts Honored with Awards

Researchers at Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD) are being honored for achievements that will protect the environment. Mary L. Wenzel has won the prestigious 2002 White House Closing the Circle Award for her work in developing an innovative ISO 14001 Certified Environmental Management System (EMS) for the Lewis and Clark Class (T-AKE) Acquisition Program. (The T-AKE Class provides a two-product shuttle ship replacing the aging Combat Store (AFS) and Ammunition (AE) shuttle fleet ships.) Wenzel is detailed to the T-AKE Program Office as the Environmental, Safety and Health Program Manager.
