Norway's Kongsberg Maritime has secured contracts with China Merchant Heavy Industries (CMHI) to design and equip two construction service operation vessels (CSOV) for Awind AS.Awind AS is a Norway-based offshore ship owner and a subsidiary of Integrated Wind Solutions AS. The combined contract value for Kongsberg Maritime is approximately NOK 250 million ($30,2 million).Destined for the offshore wind market, the new CSOVs will be built to Kongsberg Maritime’s UT 5519 DE design by CMHI.

Finnish marine cargo handling equipment provider MacGregor has been selected to supply repeat packages of deck machinery equipment for two new US Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) towing, salvage and rescue ships (T-ATS).According to a press release from MacGregor, part of Cargotec, the vessels under construction at Gulf Island Shipyards in Houma, Louisiana, US. MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has been selected to supply deck machinery equipment for a US Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) T-ATSX-class vessel under construction at Gulf Island Shipyards, in Houma, Louisiana, US. A new 16-meter harbor tug has completed its delivery voyage from Macduff Shipyards to Shoreham on the south coast of England.The new tug, Acamar, was designed by Macduff Ship Design for Shoreham Port Authority, inspired by the Eileen Mcloughlin hull and customized to suit the port’s busy operations schedule and narrowed in order to fit through lock gates. Deck machinery specialist, ACE Winches has delivered and engineered a back deck solution for Saipem. Working to a tight deadline of three and half weeks, ACE Winches worked in conjunction with Scantrol AS to supply a deck machinery solution which included an Active Heave Compensation winch and A-frame solution that will be used as an auxiliary deep water deployment system for subsea equipment. The deck machinery equipment was engineered and manufactured at ACE Winches facilities in Aberdeenshire and was mobilized to Saipem for work scheduled for 2017 and beyond.

MacGregor has signed a new series of deck machinery orders for 12 vessels with the China-based Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group. This builds on a track-record of contracts that now stands at 150 shipsets of equipment successfully delivered and installed at Sinopacific yards. The orders were booked into the third quarter 2014 order intake. "These orders demonstrate Sinopacific's confidence and satisfaction with MacGregor equipment and its services," said Francis Wong, Vice President, Segment Sales, MacGregor Offshore.

Rolls-Royce is to deliver deck machinery and engines to an arctic Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessel (AHTS) to be built by Vard for Bourbon Offshore Norway. The contract has a value in excess of £17 million for Rolls-Royce. The deck machinery delivery from Rolls-Royce will consist of anchor handling winches, secondary winches, auxiliary winches, anchor handling cranes and a wide range of safer deck operation equipment. The engine delivery consists of two main engines and three main generator engines. AHTS vessels are built to handle anchors for oil rigs and perform rig moves.

The Naval Surface Warfare Center uses Adams software to simulate USN ship hull and deck equipment. The technology is used for conceptualization and design-for-manufacturability simulations. As a result, design cycles have been slashed by 50 percent. Hull and deck machinery equipment - such as watertight closures, cargo/weapons elevators, embarkation equipment, cranes, boat handling equipment, and habitability - is an integral part of a U.S. Navy ship mission. Whether moving ammunition or providing helicopter access, these systems must be fully operational when called upon. In addition, they must be safe to operate, maintainable by the ship crew, and affordable to the Navy throughout the equipment lifecycle.

The MacGREGOR Group recently unveiled details of its new offshore division, a division made possible by the recent acquisitions of Hydramarine in Norway and Plimsoll in Singapore. The Offshore division will comprise more than 660 employees: 160 in Norway and 500 in Asia. In 2006, Hydramarine and Plimsoll had a combined turnover of approximately €104 million and a order backlog of €175 million. Both Hydramarine and Plimsoll are financially consolidated into the MacGREGOR Group as of April 1, 2007. Cargotec’s MacGregor business area providing marine cargo handling solutions has established a new division, MacGregor Offshore. The acquired companies, Norwegian Hydramarine and Singaporean Plimsoll will be the foundation for the new division. The offshore division will be headed by Henrik Vildenfeldt who previously worked as SVP, Corporate Development at MacGregor. Vildenfeldt reports to Olli Isotalo, President of MacGREGOR. The new division employs approximately 700 people. Both Hydramarine and Plimsoll are included in MacGregor financials as of the beginning of April 2007. The new offshore division will focus on achieving targeted synergies from the combination of Hydramarine and Plimsoll and continue to build on future growth.

MacGREGOR has signed an agreement to acquire Hydramarine AS. Hydramarine is based in Norway and is a company in high-end offshore and subsea load handling systems for the offshore vessel industry. MacGREGOR will acquire 90 percent of the company with the remaining shares being owned by employees. The acquisition is subject to competition authority approval. Hydramarine focuses on the development of hydraulic and electrical deck machinery equipment for shipowners, yards and operators. Its key products are large active heave compensated cranes to the offshore industry. It offers a complete range of high-end handling systems such as cranes, davits, winches and subsea load handling solutions. Its products are installed on various kinds of offshore supply vessels and rigs.
