Caley Develops Deepwater Lowering System for Gorgon Project

Handling systems specialist, Caley Ocean Systems has been awarded a contract by Subsea 7 to design, manufacture and supply a deepwater lowering system (DLS). The DLS will initially be deployed by Subsea 7 on the Chevron-operated Gorgon project, located off the northwest coast of Western Australia, to lower subsea structures weighing up to 950Te in water depths in excess of 1,300m. The DLS comprises two double drum traction and storage winches and fully redundant controls, all mounted on an integrated grillage structure for rapid mobilization onto the pipelay and heavy lift vessel Sapura 3000.

McDermott Acquires DeepSea

McDermott International, Inc. announced that certain of its subsidiaries have entered into an agreement in which McDermott has acquired all of the outstanding shares of the DeepSea operating companies. Terms of the purchase are not being disclosed. Headquartered in London, England, with engineering offices in Houston, Europe and Asia Pacific, DeepSea’s specialty services encompass subsea engineering and project management and extend from the wellhead to fixed, floating or shore-based production facilities for oil and gas operators worldwide.

Spar Hull Installation Contract for McDermott

McDermott awarded Gulf of Mexico Spar hull installation contract for Williams Partners. McDermott International, Inc. announce that one of its subsidiaries has been awarded a contract by Williams Partners L.P. for transportation and installation services for a Spar hull in the Gulf of Mexico. McDermott will transport and install the Gulfstar FPS GS-1 Spar hull and moorings. Located approximately 150 miles offshore, the Spar platform is destined for the Gulf of Mexico’s Mississippi Canyon and will sit in approximately 4,200 feet of water. McDermott’s recently improved DB50 vessel will install the moorings before transporting the classic-design Spar hull to the installation site where it will be upended and ballasted before installing a temporary work deck.

McDermott Gets Fixed Offshore Platform Contract

McDermott International. Inc. The project is to deliver new junction facilities for Discovery’s Keathley Canyon Connector™ pipeline system with a 3,300-ton, four-leg platform in 350 feet of water. The unmanned platform will provide pipeline junction facilities for incoming deepwater pipelines from the Hadrian South and Lucius fields and for outgoing shallow-water pipelines to shore. Fabrication is expected to commence this summer at McDermott’s Morgan City facility in Louisiana. Offshore installation is expected to commence during the third quarter of 2013, and is intended to be ready for operational start-up before the end of the year. McDermott’s deepwater combination heavy lift and pipelay vessel DB50 is expected to perform the installation.
