Scorpio Tankers Wins $1 Billion Credit for New Vessels
Scorpio Tankers has received commitments from a group of financial institutions for a previously announced $1.0 billion term loan and revolving credit facility.The over-subscribed Credit Facility was capped at an amount of $1.0 billion, and is expected to be used to finance 45 product tankers. Scorpio Tankers currently owns, lease finances or bareboat charters-in 113 product tankers (39 LR2 tankers, 60 MR tankers and 14 Handymax tankers) with an average age of 7.4 years.The Credit Facility is expected to consist of a 50% term loan and a 50% revolving loan, and has a final maturity of five years from the signing date (but not later than June 30, 2028).Emanuele Lauro, Chairman and CEO of the company, said: “We appreciate our lenders and their commitment to the company.
Shipping Loans Weigh Down German Banks
German banks are still struggling with bad loans from exposure to the shipping industry, reports DW. The banks are struggling to recoup tens of billions of dollars of loans as a global shipping industry slump hits them hard. A report published on Sunday by German public broadcaster ARD has suggested that the northern German states of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein may have to offer up to 20 billion euros ($21.4 billion) in credit guarantees to prop up banks with bad investments in container shipping. "Many competitors here have hardly any chance against the new mega-shipping companies in Asia," reporter Heinz-Roger Dohms wrote. Scorpio lines up $172m in loans for newbuilds
Scorpio Tankers Inc. announced today that the Company has received commitments for a loan facility of up to $172 million from a group of financial institutions including Macquarie Bank Limited (London Branch), DekaBank Deutsche Girozentrale ("DekaBank"), The Export-Import Bank of Korea ("KEXIM") and Garanti-Instituttet for Eksportkreditt ("GIEK"). The loan facility, which is composed of multiple tranches, will be used to finance up to 60% of the market value of eight MR product tankers under construction at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., Ltd. which are scheduled for delivery in 2017 and 2018. The maturity date of each tranche is between six and 12 years from each drawdown date, and the facility bears interest at LIBOR plus a blended margin of 2.02% per annum.

Tanker carrier Scorpio Tankers has landed a loan deal for USD 172 million. The money will finance 60 percent of eight new MR product tankers which are currently under construction in South Korea. The company said in a press release that it has received commitments for a loan facility of up to $172 million from a group of financial institutions including Macquarie Bank Limited (London Branch), DekaBank Deutsche Girozentrale (DekaBank), The Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) and Garanti-Instituttet for Eksportkreditt (GIEK). Eurofin Brokers Turkish Ship Finance Loan
Eurofin brought together the five European banks which have syndicated a $440m facility to Istanbul-based Kiran Holdings. It is the largest ever ship finance loan made to a Turkish shipping company. The loan will cover orders for six new bulkers at Chinese yards. The $440m loan includes $100m of performance guarantees connected to the newbuilding programme. It is a syndicated loan led by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). Dekabank Deutsche Girozentrale, Lloyds TSB Bank, Fortis Bank and Deutsche Schiffsbank are all part of the syndication. The loan covers orders for two supramax and two kamsarmax bulkers at Wujiazui Shipbuilding and two capesizes at Jiangsu Rongsheng Heavy Industries. The Kiran group controls nineteen bulk carriers and general cargo ships.
