SunStone Maritime Group A/S took delivery of two Infinity class ships -- Sylvia Earle and Ocean Odyssey -- from the CMHI Shipyard in Haimen, China. The pair are the fourth and the fifth of the Infinity class delivered from China Merchant Heavy Industries, and both will be on long-term, year-round charter: the SYLVIA EARLE with Aurora Expeditions, and the OCEAN ODYSSEY with Vantage Deluxe World Travel.The Infinity series of ships represents a collaboration between European design and technology and Chinese shipbuilding.Infinity class ships measure 104 x 18m with a 5.1m draft.

CSL Launches Passenger/Cargo Ship for Andaman

Cochin Shipyard Ltd, the largest shipbuilding and maintenance facility in India, launched passenger/cargo ship for Andaman & Nicobar (A&N) Administration.The vessel is designed as a modern high-quality passenger vessel with electric propulsion suitable for carrying 1,200 passengers and 1,000 tonnes of cargo for “all-weather” operation on the mainland-to-A&N route.The ship is built to the highest standards of the Indian Register of Shipping and Lloyds Register of Shipping overseen by the DG Shipping of India and meets the requirements of “Class III Special Trade Passenger Ship” as per Indian Merchant Shipping rules.The vessel is built in steel as a modern, safe and seaworthy vessel with aesthetic lines and pleasant profile.

Fincantieri: New Design for MSC Seashore

A traditional maritime coin ceremony  took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, when the keel was laid for MSC Seashore. At the milestone event, MSC Cruises revealed details of the significantly transformed overall design and new features of the ship.MSC Seashore will be the Company’s longest ship – 339 meters – when she enters service in June 2021, the first of two enriched “Seaside Evo” Class ships with the latest available environmental technology, extended public spaces, more cabins and the highest ratio of outdoor space per guest of any ship in the company’s fleet.

Cruise Ships: Oceanwide Orders Polar Class Ship

The expedition cruise ship market maintains its torrid pace with news that Oceanwide Expeditions has orders another Polar Class 6 ship, following the success of its ship Hondius.Croatian shipyard Brodosplit, the builder of Hondius, won the follow on order for M/V Janssonius, which is scheduled to be completed in October, 2021. The 174-passenger ship will be nearly identical in size and design, complete with a Polar Class 6 ice-strengthened vessel equivalent to a 1A super ice-class ship.

ACL's Next Riverboat Nears Completion

American Cruise Lines announced that its second of a new class of modern riverboat, the American Harmony, moved under its own power to the shipyard’s outfitting pier for final touches. American Harmony was successfully launched at Chesapeake Shipbuilding this past November, 2018, and is well ahead of schedule for its August 17, 2019 inaugural cruise on the Mississippi River. American Harmony is the 2nd of 5 new ships in American’s revolutionary new modern riverboat series. The 1st ship, American Song, was the first modern riverboat in U.S. history and went into service last fall.

Refit River Cruiser Sets Sail for Crystal

The newly renovated vessel Mozart, which began passenger service in July 2016, marks Crystal Cruises’ first venture into European river cruising. Before for the revitalized river cruiser Mozart set sail, Crystal Cruises contracted R&M Sea Level Marine to completely renovate all the vessel’s cabins, suites and the reception lobby. The refit took place from April 24 to July 6 in Linz, Austria. Designed by II BY IV Design of Toronto, renovations included completely redesigned accommodations with all new bathrooms and complete renewal of all furniture and finishes.

Launch of Mississippi River Cruise Service

Governor Bobby Jindal and Viking Cruises Chairman Torstein Hagen announced the selection of New Orleans as the homeport for Viking River Cruises’ first North American river cruise itineraries. The Mississippi River cruises will operate from docking facilities near the French Quarter in New Orleans. Viking’s new service will result in the creation of 416 new direct jobs for Louisiana-based operations and vessel crews, with an average salary of $40,000, plus benefits; and Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project will result in an additional 368 new indirect jobs, for a total of more than 780 new jobs in the Southeast Region of the state.

China Shipyard Upgrades Ready to Build 'Titanic ll'

CSC Jinling Shipyard Co Ltd in Nanjing is to build a replica for Blue Star Line of the liner that notoriously sank in 1912. The project, which will take the state-owned CSC Jinling Shipyard Co Ltd in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, three years to complete, is financed by Australian billionaire Clive Palmer, China Daily reported. Plans call for the Titanic II to make its maiden voyage from England to the United States in 2016 with 900 crew members and 2,400 passengers, following the trans-Atlantic track of the original Titanic. U.S. Coast Guard Safety Alert

Problem With Mustang Inflatable PFD's. The Coast Guard has become aware of certain Mustang Survival Inflatable PFDs with Hammar MA1 hydrostatic (HIT) inflation systems which may not inflate and require a new re-arm kit to properly inflate by manual or automatic activation. This safety alert identifies which products are affected. Certain inflatable PDFs may be subject to delayed or non-inflations. To determine if you are impacted please follow the instructions below. If you have a re-arm kit MA7214 or MA7218 you need only to check the lot number on the CO2 cylinder label.

Thai Cruises Set Up by New Chinese Venture

Hong Kong-based Profit Summit Deluxe Cruise partner with Thailand's Eastime Shipping for China – Thai cruises. China’s rapidly increasing involvement in cruise shipping investment has been underlined by a recently completed first cruise voyage in the Gulf of Thailand, the first since Star Cruises pulled out of the market in 2002. The first cruise aboard the 1,000 passenger 'Ocean Dream' was from Laem Chabang to Samui Island and on to Sihanoukville in Cambodia for a four day, three night trip. The Chinese company set up with Thailand’s Eastime Shipping to run the 1,000 passenger MV Ocean Dream, a 1972-built ship that was bought two years ago by the Hong Kong firm, rescuing it from a trip to the breakers.
