MarineTraffic Safeguards Intellectual Assets

AIS vessel tracking service MarineTraffic has joined the Licence on Transfer (LOT) Network in a move it said will help to safeguard its intellectual assets. The LOT Network, formed to promote innovation by reducing the risk of litigation from Patent Assertion Entities (PAEs), also known as Patent Troll, has 47 members across many industries and contains more than 327,000 worldwide patent assets. “We joined the LOT Network recognizing its growing ability to protect against patent trolling and enable companies to get on with the business of innovation,” said Demitris Memos, Managing Director at MarineTraffic. ‘Chapplaincy’ for Better Seafarers' Welfare Support

Sailors’ Society, one of the largest seafarer support charities operating internationally, has developed ‘Chapplaincy’ a Smartphone App which will enable port chaplains and ship visitors to deliver more effective care to the world’s 1.5 million seafarers. Developed with the support of Augustea Group, Chapplaincy enables real-time activity reporting and maintains a history of ship visits and support provided to seafarers. Data can then be accessed by chaplains in other ports and subject to confidentiality and data protection policies, can be used to provide ongoing care and assistance as ship and crew continue their voyage. MarineTraffic Assists Search for Flight 370

Maritime tracking AIS facility MarineTraffic has opened up its satellite-AIS service in the search area relevant to the missing MH370 airliner. Following requests from numerous agencies and individuals, this usually paid-for service has now been made available to any user free of charge. MarineTraffic Managing Director, Demitris Memos said, “Like most people around the world, we have taken an active interest in the search for this aircraft. With the battery life of the black box apparently nearing exhaustion, it is clearly necessary for everyone to do what they can to assist. The Australian operations center will also have access to the facility to help them build a more comprehensive picture of non-search vessels transiting the area.
