Seaspan to Begin Building Canada’s Joint Support Ships

Canadian shipbuilder Seaspan Shipyards together with the Government of Canada announced that work will begin soon on the Joint Support Ships (JSS) for the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN).These purpose-built vessels are being constructed as part of a strategic partnership between the Government of Canada and Seaspan under Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS). USS America Concludes Support to USS John S. McCain

The amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) and 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit departed Singapore after supporting the guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) Aug. 27. America will continue on its maiden deployment. While in Singapore, Sailors and Marines aboard America provided initial support for the McCain crew to include berthing for 155 Sailors, daily supplies, counseling, medical/dental services and communications network support. Additionally, America's Sailors assisted with damage control efforts by providing watchstanders and additional equipment. "I was glad to help out our fellow shipmates," said Chief Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Fuel) (Select) Brad Cooper.

Over 4,300 people queue for mass screening hoping for an appointment card leading to life changing surgery aboard 'African Mercy'. USNS Comfort Arrives in Belize

The Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) arrived in Belize on June 20, its first scheduled stop as part of the Partnership for the Americas mission to conduct training and humanitarian assistance operations. Comfort’s joint forces crew -- which includes personnel from Military Sealift Command, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army, Canadian Forces and Project Hope -- will work at various sites in Belize and provide medical treatment to Belizean citizens, as well as repair medical equipment and restore existing medical facilities. U.S. Navy Seabee Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 202, based in Norfolk, will also perform construction work on two schools while in Belize. “We’re looking forward to serving the people of Belize.
