Eversendai Offshore Selects AVEVA Software

AVEVA announced that Eversendai Offshore, a brand new customer, has made a significant investment in AVEVA’s Integrated Engineering & Design solutions through its deployment of AVEVA Marine. The agreement includes the full suite of AVEVA Marine engineering and design applications that will be used on a series of new marine and offshore projects, including topsides, platforms and ships. Rapid installation and minimal training requirements have allowed Eversendai Offshore to immediately begin using AVEVA Marine on major new contracts.

Shearer Group Continues to Expand

The Shearer Group, Inc. (TSGI) announced the continued expansion of its naval architecture and marine engineer practice near Houston. Over the past year the company has made five new additions: Joshua Sebastian, P.E., Engineer Manager; Michael Capitain, Naval Architect; Ronald P. Sikora, Designer; Jacqueline Ellis, Designer; and Jo Ann Pitzer, Administrative Assistant. Joshua Sebastian graduated in 1999 from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with a degree in Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering.

APL Saves $30M/Year through Hull Optimization

In connection with an order of a series of 10 new 13,800 TEU container vessels from the world’s largest shipbuilding company Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), the global container transportation company APL requested DNV Maritime Advisory to cooperate with the shipyard to ensure superior hull efficiency of the vessels. Ships used to be optimized for the design point (i.e. to give the best performance at the design draft and speed); however, the ship seldom sails in that condition.

Hyundai Samho Upgrades to Latest Aveva Software

Aveva announced that Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI),one of the world’s largest shipbuilders, has successfully completed its upgrade from Tribon M3 software to Aveva  Marine for engineering, design and production. HSHI has used Aveva’s legacy Tribon M3 design software very successfully for many years, but chose to upgrade to the very latest Aveva Marine software portfolio after a thorough evaluation that identified major advantages in the new platform, including its powerful features such as customization.

New AVEVA Electrical Offers Up to 30 Percent Man-Hour Savings

Cambridge, UK - AVEVA has announced the release of the completely new AVEVA Electrical software application, a design solution for electrical engineers and designers in the marine environment. Pre-release customer testing has demonstrated man-hour savings of up to 30 percent when compared to traditional design applications. AVEVA joins OpenHCM Consortium

AVEVA, a leader in engineering design and information management solutions for the plant, power and marine industries, today announced it has joined the OpenHCM (Hull Conditioning Monitoring) Consortium, an initiative to increase ship safety though transparent electronic processing of assessment data for the in-service operation of ships and offshore platforms. The OpenHCM Consortium was formed to carry on the work started under the EC’s CAS projects to develop a neutral exchange standard.

Intergraph and DNVS Software Sign Letter of Intent

Intergraph Corporation and Det Norske Veritas Software (DNVS) have signed a letter of intent to complete a software licensing and distribution agreement. The proposed five-year, multi-million dollar agreement includes collaboration by the two companies in the shipbuilding, offshore and plant design markets. Under terms of the letter of intent, DNVS will market and distribute Intergraph's next-generation shipbuilding design applications to the shipbuilding industry. Additionally, Intergraph will license its SmartPlant(R) platform technology to DNVS. Intergraph and DNVS will work together to combine their respective engineering and lifecycle data management applications.

Intergraph, LR to Team on Ship Interface

Intergraph Corporation reached an agreement with Lloyd's Register to build an interface between Intergraph's IntelliShip multi-discipline ship design software, and the Lloyd's Register assessment applications, RulesCalc and ShipRight SDA. The interface will result in significantly greater efficiencies in the classification process for Lloyd's Register classed ships. IntelliShip coupled with this new interface will improve the overall ship design, certification, construction and commissioning process. Shipyards and ship designers can readily check the model created in IntelliShip against Lloyd's Register's classification rules, eliminating redundant modeling and reducing errors.

Taylor Made to Supply for Swiftships Vessel

Taylor Made Environmental has been chosen to supply the air conditioning system for a new 110 ft. vessel being built by Swiftships in Morgan City, La. The vessel is being built for the National Park Service for operation in the Florida Keys, and is being fitted with an extra high capacity air conditioning system for the tropical climate. Taylor Made Environmental is supplying a 15-ton Marine Air Systems reverse-cycle modular 3-stage chiller with Hydromatic controls and 11 air handling units totaling 177,000 BTUs. The scope of work includes extensive custom design, applications engineering and technical support. The system will be delivered to Swiftships in December 2003.

Caterpillar Organizes New Worldwide Marine Business Group

Caterpillar has formed a new Marine Business Unit within the Engine Products Division. The reorganization is designed to strengthen the company's focus on marine customer needs and streamlines communication and response in all aspects of Caterpillar's global marine engine business. Leading the new organization is Jan Arnold, a veteran marketing and sales manager with 21 years experience working not only for Caterpillar, Inc. In addition to steering a team of special business managers focused on specific marine market sub-segments, Arnold will coordinate the efforts of five managers. Bill Heimann, a 27-year Caterpillar engineer with extensive experience in product design, applications and product support, will be marine product group manager.

CSSC Will Implement Autodesk Software

Autodesk, Inc., announced that China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) will purchase 10,000 licenses of the Autodesk Inventor Series over the next three years, primarily for the use of Autodesk Inventor 3D mechanical design software included in the Autodesk Inventor Series. CSSC worked with China Daheng Information Technology Corporation, Autodesk’s Manufacturing channel partner in China, to select the Autodesk software as its standard for digital design. The collaborative capabilities of Autodesk’s software will help CSSC promote digital information exchange among ship design enterprises and ship owners. CSSC also anticipates that improved collaboration will increase competitiveness throughout its shipbuilding supply chain, improving quality and enhancing results.
